Ways To Help Your Heart

You can seriously lower your risk of heart disease with just a few minor tweaks to your daily routine.

  1. A few deep breaths daily can lower heart rate and blood pressure so try to inhale slowly from time to time.
  2. A few minutes of walking [10 to 30 minutes] everyday is enough to strengthen the blood vessels and lower blood pressure.
  3. do you drink too much coffee? If yes and your heart is racing, decrease your coffee intake to a maximum of 3 cups. It means your heart is being overworked.
  4. Eat more garlic. It has compounds that relax blood vessel walls which lowers blood pressure.
  5. Flossing after meals can ward off gum disease that can lead to artery damaging inflammation throughout the body.

Share The Dream

I'm a HUGE Obama fan and I'm proud of it. Never have I expected that an African American could become the next president of the USA. I may be a Filipina but I know that American politics greatly affect my country. Now that the Democrats are united behind Obama, their campaign is in full swing. I am sure that Obama has millions of supporters out there who would love to show their support.

Giant Obama Bumper Stickers are now available online. These are not your regular ones, these are mega-sized ones. These are for your windows. Sticking to his policy of proudly "Made in the USA", these stickers are designed and printed in America. What are you waiting for, Now is our time, this is one Change We Can Believe In. Share in his dream of making America what it once was. Land of opportunities where dreams are made into realities.

Blushing Easily

Aside from embarrassment, alcohol, exercise and spicy foods can all cause a blood rush to the skin. But according to Healthy Living, flushing can also be a sign of rosacea, a redness that affects people with fair, sun-damaged skin.

Sun damage weakens the collagen around blood vessels, so they lose their ability to constrict and instead stay dilated, which causes the face to become red.

It is best to use sun protection when going out in the sun and avoid the things that trigger flushing. You may consult your doctor about topical prescriptions if that doesn't work for you.

Love Seafood and Win!

Here's another great discovery, the Great American Seafood is holding a cook off. It's so easy to win all you have to do is click on the link and vote for your favorite recipe. Prize at stake is a trip to New Orleans. Now, if you love seafood so much I'm sure you'll love going to New Orleans.

I voted for the Texas Gulf Shrimp. My kids, especially my youngest, love shrimps so much so I am always on the look out for new recipes. I kinda liked this one because it looks easy to prepare. And the ingredients are not so hard to find either. Everything is available in your local market. I like simple and easy to prepare food and I always make sure I use the freshest of ingredients. Food always tastes good when fresh ingredients are used. It's a recipe by Chef Mark Holley who hails from Texas. the shrimps are drizzled with Heirloom Tomato Relish and Prickly Pear Gastrique. Just look at the photo, doesn't it look yummy?

Voting is still on, I would visit www.GreatAmericaSeafoodCookOff. com and cast my vote now if I were you. Click on the redbox where it says “Vote and Enter to Win a Trip to New Orleans: RECIPE CONTEST.” Choose from among the 5 recipes and vote for the one you like best. You may even try the recipes in your own kitchen so you'll know which one of the chefs deserves to win. Join the seafood cookoff now, who knows? You might be the lucky winners of a "Trip to New Orleans". Prize package includes two Southwest Airline roundtrip tickets, hotel accommodations, dining experiences and more!

Planning a Picnic

It's going to be my daughter's birthday on Tuesday, September 02. We have not planned for anything yet because it is a school day and she usually goes home late from school. I'm thinking of going on a picnic next weekend. It's been a long time since we last went on a picnic. Hopefully, there will be no rains on Saturday so we can go down the South and have a good mountain view.

I won't have much time to prepare for food so i figured a picnic would be perfect. I just checked out the gourmet food web site and thought of ordering Seafood and Shellfish basket. My family loves sea foods so much and I'm sure they will be happy to have mini crab cakes, smoked sturgeon and lobster meat. I've heard so much about their "melt in your mouth" smoked sturgeon and I'm dying to try it. I'm sure they won't call it "queen of all smoked fish" for nothing.

I heart this web site. Saves me a lot of time and worries from preparation dilemmas. If you're planning for parties, picnics or gatherings and don't have the time to prepare check out their gourmet food gift boxes. You can order everything there, wines, steaks, desserts, seafood, shellfish, appetizers and Hors d'oeuvers , Foie gras, caviars, truffles and many more.

Why Organic?

Stop thinking about whether you should buy organic or not, here's why... produce and grains grown without pesticides don't expose your thyroid to toxins. They keep your metabolism running in full swing. The non-organic ones block your metabolism because they interfere with your thyroid. For boosting your metabolism, go organic.

The Period that Saves

We do not have to let those stem cells go to waste. C'elle will store those vital stem cells from our menstrual blood in deep freeze. So ladies... time to make a move now, start collecting those vital cells and save lives in the future. We invest in stocks , business and realty, why not invest in our health? The Sweet Home Blogger Award

My blogging buddy Entrepgirl passed this sweet home blogger award to me. Thanks girl!

And now I'm sharing this with all of you.

Can I take it with me?

Picture this scenario, global warming, bio-terrorism, genetic science or a gigantic asteroid is going to hit us. Our world is definitely coming to an end, any of these could wipe humanity from the face of the earth. And to save the human race we are to move on another planet. Have you thought of the one thing that you certainly can't live without? I haven't. But if I have to think quickly, I think I would bring my PC. You might be laughing at me but I'd like to able to continue blogging and play my favorite computer games even in another planet.

There's a new game called Tabula Rasa, and it's all about Operation Immortality: Leave your mark. Save Humanity. It's a role playing game where all humanity's greatest achievements and digitized DNA are stored. People from around the globe can send their personal messages and these will be stored on the International Space Station in October 2008. Hurry because time is running out, I would start sending my messages now if I were you.

You can participate in this game by submitting your suggestions for humanity's greatest achievements, leaving your message for the universe, and registering for a chance to have your DNA sent into space. This is our last hope if the final blow would really come.

Smooth Feet

To keep your feet feeling smooth all the time try this simple trick. This routine works best before bed. Here's what you should do.. after showering or washing your feet, slough the bottoms of your feet while skin is still damp. If your soles are rough, soak them in warm whole milk for 10 minutes before using a foot file. The lactic acid in milk helps loosen dead skin cells making buffing more successful. Then, massage on a thick cream and pull on a pair of socks. As for me, petroleum jelly works well instead of cream.

I'm Normal Afterall!

Don't ever think that just because you're quirky, you're nuts. Every one of us has this quirkiness inside and according to Readers' Digest's article on Are You Normal or Nuts? "to be human is to be quirky." I came upon one of their psychology articles, the readers send in their questions and ask if their behavior is normal, and this one really caught my attention, let me quote it.

I have to use things until they wear out before getting new ones. It took me seven years to use up 14 bottles of nail polish. I should get a new pair of sandals, but my old ones aren't completely worn-out yet, so I'll wait. My friends tell me this is not normal.

Hmmm, I am exactly like her, not with nail polish though because I always keep my nails free of polishes. But I have to agree with her on shoes and sandals. I'm not much of a fashion girl and I don't usually buy shoes that are "in" so they don't really look out of style. For as long as I'm comfortable, I really don't mind wearing them over and over again. Sometimes my husband would tell me and tease me to use my other shoes because other people might think that's the only pair I have. But I'm glad he doesn't see as weird because I was already beginning to think it's not normal.

The site's answer gave me a sigh of relief. It says that if value something because of utility then that's considered normal, but if you value it so much because you're obsessed to it, this psychological issue needs attention. It's not wrong to be thrifty and comfortable! Especially during this difficult time that we're undergoing economic crisis.

Read about Are You Normal or Nuts? and see which category you belong. Also check out Reader's Digest Laughs, they have the a list of clean and funny jokes that will certainly make your day.

SIDS and Coffee Link

Are you pregnant? Do you drink too much coffee? New Zealand researchers have confirmed that pregnant women who drink more that 4 cups of coffee a day are 2 times more likely to have their babies die of SIDS [Sudden Infant Death Syndrome].

Apart from slowing down on caffeine, parents are advised to put their baby to sleep on its back. Dress and cover him comfortably but not too tightly and avoid keeping the baby too warm. The cot/crib should have good ventilation, the sides should be open and without bumpers. The mattress should be empty of toys. You can sleep with your baby in the same room but avoid sleeping in the same bed, it increases the risk. You should also try to breastfeed for at least six months.

You're on the spot

There is a company that will help you solve the problems you face when it comes to parking your car. Every one seems to own a car these days, some of them have more than one. This is one of the reasons why parking has become a major problem in key cities. Plus, not all home owners have enough room to park two or more cars. Not many are lucky to have off road parking. But to those who don't, this could possibly cause issues with your neighbors. This is just one problem some car owners are facing right now. London Garage for Rent offers you rates on a rolling monthly basis . These rates are incredibly cheap and guarantees your car’s safety. Throw your worries about car thieves and sleep soundly at night knowing your car is safely parked. Park let provides you with guaranteed, safe and secure parking space.
The company does not only offer rent a garage service. If you happen to work in the city and you are having problems looking for a place to park your car every morning, there are available parking slots that you can rent. Again, at affordable monthly rates. Don’t let those parking issues ruin your morning or your evening, visit the web site and compare their rates.

Phyto, The Pet

Last time, I told you about the new neighbors, the Sproutwells, the veggie family living among us, humans. Well, I can say the sproutwells have sprouted really fast! Meet Phyto, the new pet. He is the cute little green thing who is so much like a dog. The Sproutwell kids loved him, but Rosie, the human is totally disgusted of him.

The fruits and veggie family is certainly making a buzz in the neighborhood. Ruby Red, the little fashionista is my favorite character. And like Rosie, I am getting really curious with what this family is up to. The conversation was stopped because a package arrived. Hmmm.... I'll have to wait and see what's in the package.

Small But Terrible

Did you know that large produce have fewer nutrients than that of the small ones? A recent study shows that the more a tomato weighs [even if it's organic], the lower its concentration of antioxidant lycopene. Aside from baby or small vegetables having a higher concentration of lycopene, they are sweeter, more tender and require little or no preparation at all. So the next time you go to the market or grocery, choose the small ones. They are cuter in appearance I am sure our kids would love them.

all about laser eye surgery

About 12 years ago, hubby underwent laser eye surgery. This laser eye surgery is popularly known as Lasik [ laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis] , a surgical alternative to wearing corrective eye glasses or contact lenses. It is performed to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Hubby used to wear contact lenses [during daytime] and layered eyeglasses [during nighttime] for so many years because of his progressive myopia, his eye refraction reaching to 1020 [left eye] and 1010 [right eye]. Without them, he's almost blind. He also had an allergy for extended contact lenses so he had no other choice but to use hard lenses.

I think he was one of the first people who had this surgery when it was first introduced in the country. But before he had the surgery, we had to read about LASIK information first. The eyes are very delicate and we had to make sure that it is safe and effective. The procedure requires less time for recovery and according to his ophthalmologist it is painless. Upon knowing that he is qualified for Lasik and it's completely safe and there are no serious complications, we decided that hubby goes for it. By the way, not all people with myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism can be a candidate. Those with thin, irregularly shaped corneas or unrealistic expectations are not considered good candidates.

After a few tests, his doctor performed the surgery. Hubby said he felt no pain at all. The surgery only took about 40 minutes and he went home with a 20/20 vision. Lasik really changed his life for the better.

Caring for Your Eyes

At age 40, eyesight begins to deteriorate. With those people living longer lives, the frequency of vision-impairing eye disease is increasing in women. If we could be proactive about eye health, it could help lessen the problems.

Studies show that a lutein-rich diet can build eye immunity, and reduce the risk of macular degeneration. What is macular degeneration? It is one of the most common and incurable diseases of the eye. Dark leafy vegetables like spinach as well as tomatoes, peaches and carrots have a high lutein content.

Prolonged exposure to bright light weakens the eyes. When you have to out on a bright sunny day, wear a cap, bring an umbrella or wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Make sure your shades are UV protected. Like our teeth, our eyes need regular check-ups too.

Lemon Water

I am sure you know by now how important drinking plenty of water is to our body. It aids in digestion, curbs hunger and ramps up fat-burning. But if you're aiming for a better waistline, try adding a few slices of lemon or lime. You don't only get a dose of vitamin C, it also helps blast off ab fat.

The New Neighbors

The Sproutwells just moved in the neighborhood, and as a sign of welcome Rosie, who live next door gave them a housewarming gift, a bowl of green vegetables. Mrs. Sproutwell was so surprised she threw the bowl away. She thought it was her long lost cousin Monty!

Now, you may be wondering who the sproutwells are, they are just your typical veggie and fruit family living among humans, and they are just trying to fit in our world. If you were to ask me what kind of vegetable I would like to be.. I'd be a broccoli. Why? Because broccoli helps in lowering cancer risk and generally improve health.

Sleep Tip

If you struggle to fall asleep or you wake up in the middle of the night, try a preslumber snack about an hour before bedtime. Make sure it has a mix of carbs and protein, so a small bowl of cereal, a whole wheat sandwich or a thin slice of plain cream cheese cake will do [I said "or", not "and", lol].

Some people drink alcohol to help them fall asleep, that is not bad, but experts don't recommend it because it can sometimes wake you up later with what they call "rebound arousal." Drinking caffeine free herbal tea or a warm glass of milk would be a lot better.

Does it make scents?

Whoa! This I gotta try... there's a scent that makes you seem six years younger. The Smell and Taste Research Foundation of Chicago found that women who wore the scent of pink grapefruit were assumed to be six years younger than their actual age. Well, I'm not really obsessed with my age but I have to admit it made me smile when I read about it. Imagine... you can recapture a youthful feeling by simply slathering on hand lotion containing grapefruit essence.

Anyone who may have tried this before is welcome to share your experience. I'm sure a lot of ladies out there [including me] would like to know more about this.
