It's a Girl!

I just heard the great news from my cousin Michelle.  She is pregnant with her second child and it's a girl!  Before she got pregnant, she was thinking of going back to school; in a regular school, that is.  But now she says it's going to be online so she can manage her time well.  She already checked the online degree programs and will be enrolling for a course soon.  Michelle is already in her late thirties and she doesn't want to risk this baby.  Studying at home is a great idea because she will still get to do what she really wanted without moving around a lot.  Take care Chie, and congratulations to you and Rob.

What could it be?

My husband and I have agreed not to spend a lot on anniversary gifts.  It's not that I don't like receiving expensive gifts but we are just both being practical.  Now I hear rumors (from my kids!) that come June 27, that's our 25th wedding anniversary, I will get a gift that I will really love.  They say, it's going to be a big surprise.  Hmmm, I have no idea what kind of anniversary gifts for wife my husband is preparing but I know he is getting help from our two kids.  It's still months away but I'm already getting excited.  Maybe I should also start planning hubs' anniversary gift.

She gave her Boss a Box of Swisher

How on earth would I know how to buy cigars? That's the question I gave my friend when she asked me to help her buy a cigar for her boss. It would have been easier if she was looking for a cigarette. I used to smoke so I know the brands. But then how I can I say NO to her when she was giving me those puppy blue eyes?   So I consulted google and swisher cigars were on top of the list.  That's what she gave her boss.  It was his first time to try the brand and he liked it.

Restore thinning hair with Kiwifruit

The juicy fruit is packed with inositol, a carb which helps generate hair follicle growth and protect against the free-radical damage that leads to thinning.

Can't wait to hear the great news.

Our friends Jake and Leonore have been married for five years but they still have not been blessed with a child.  They've been to a doctor and were told that nothing is wrong to the couple.  It could be Leonore's age (she's turning 40 this year) that's making it difficult for her to conceive.  And it could also be that both of them are too focused on their careers and are under a lot of stress most of the time.  These were the two things that the doctor pointed out.

We've been telling them to relax a bit and take a time off if they really want to work on conceiving.  But Leonore is trying something new, IVF.  She found out about this at Santa Monica fertility blog while searching the internet for ways to get pregnant fast.  She said she had already discussed it with Jake (he agreed!) and their doctor.  Leonore feels that because she is turning 40; she is running out of time.  She also feels that chances of getting pregnant the natural way is slim.  Leonore believes that through In vitro fertilisation (IVF), she'll get pregnant fast.  If you are familiar with test tube baby, it's one and the same.

Leonore and Jake are preparing for the process and pretty soon, both are hoping to succeed.  We are all praying for you guys and we are hoping to hear the good news very soon.

Prevent Flaky Skin

Now that it's summer, I'm sure you're worried about flaky skin.  To prevent this, nosh on watermelon.  The rich supply of lycopene in the summer staple strengthens the skin's defenses against damaging UV rays, cutting redness and flaking by 30 percent or more.  Aim for 2 cups daily.

Infinite Banking Can Do Wonders

Since learning about infinite banking, my cousin has avoided the pitfalls of overspending. Once up to his neck in credit card debt, he has used his idle term life insurance into a money well. Free from taxes, he is now able to maximize his money thereby increasing his spending power. Interest is virtually nonexistent. No more high rates and irritating collection agents. He's been very prudent and wise. He has thrown away his credit cards and is now enjoying a stress-free life. I also have several insurance policies on hand. I may follow his footsteps and be my own bank. Who knows, I might be able to buy that new car I've been dreaming of.

DIY Body Scrub

Did you know that you can find ingredients in your kitchen that can be used to make delicious smelling face, body, and foot scrubs?  Oatmeal, cornmeal, sugar and salt can be used as exfoliants.  Then you can add moisturizing ingredients like avocado and honey for the face.  Coconut oil or olive works great for the body and feet , but if your skin has a tendency to breakout you can substitute honey or yogurt.  Citrus juices such as lemon, lime or orange can also be added because they act as astringents; and for a more aromatic scrub, just put a few drops of skin-friendly essential oil.  Here, try this yummy body scrub....

Avocado-Strawberry-Sugar Body Scrub
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup mashed avocado
  • 1/4 cup mashed strawberry
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 cup minced fresh basil
  • 1 drop rose essential oil (optional)

No More Next Time

My son did it again.  I hate it when he tells me that he needs something at the last minute.  Last night he told me that he needed a Cowboy Hat for his costume.  Their group is going to present a skit tomorrow and his role is a cowboy.  Now, where in the world will I get a cowboy hat in the middle of the night?!?  My husband had to drive all the way to Las Pinas just to borrow my FIL's cowboy hat.  I told my son that there won't be a next time to teach him a lesson.

Modern Wedding Decorations

If you want your wedding to be elegant and fabulous all the way from the ceiling to the floor and the aisle to the altar, you should visit the wedding decorations website that I found.  I love weddings and I like browsing online just to check on what's the latest in weddings.  I, myself had a beautiful wedding but it was a long time ago and so much have changed over the years.  The hottest trends now are chandeliers.  Whether you are planning a garden or an indoor wedding, these chandeliers come in different styles and designs to match your theme.  I would have spruced up my wedding with chandeliers if these were available then.

Unforgettable Wedding Decorations

When my husband's cousin got married last year, she hired a wedding planner to help her out.  I guess she was lucky because the wedding planner she got was very organized and creative.  She had a beautiful wedding and all she got all the things she wanted on that very special day.  She wanted a garden wedding with just her favorite flower, Canna Lily for wedding decorations.  Her wedding planner had to bring it to the wedding site all the way from the US.  The garden looked so elegant and fabulous with the long stemmed canna lilies.  Even during the wedding, her organizer was very attentive.  She made sure nothing will go wrong and attended to every last detail.  My cousin in law had an unforgettable wedding because of her.

Fast Relief for Sunburned Skin

Now that summertime is here, I'm sure a lot of you are heading to the beach.  And sometimes, we are having too much fun in the water that we forget to reapply sunscreen.  If you do get that painful tingling on your shoulders and you are out of aloe vera gel, the fast relief for your sunburned skin is to reach for a shaving cream.  Smooth a dollop over the burned areas and you'll feel soothed instantly.  Shaving cream contains skin soothing ingredients like lanolin and emollients (some even contain aloe vera) that will soothe the burn immediately.

Furniture Retail Software Gets It Done

I attended an expo for retail businesses. Actually, my friend took me along and I really enjoyed it. She's a sales director for a local retail store. They sell almost everything and she's looking for ways to make their operations a little less tedious. Their business is divided into several departments. One booth caught her attention. This company is offering a furniture retail software. Most of the other departments in their company already use scanners except for the home depot department. She made arrangements for an agent to make a demo for them. With all the features the software has, it's definitely going to make things a lot easier for this department.

Beauty Secret (5) - Make the Most of a Facial Mask

To make the most of your facial mask, make sure your face is thoroughly clean before application.  Whether your mask is for anti-aging, acne or hydration; you want it to penetrate deeply into your skin to make the active ingredients work.  Wash your face with a good facial cleanser and use a toner right after to make sure face is thoroughly cleaned before applying the mask.

Fabulous Wedding Decorations

Who says you need a wedding planner to make a perfect wedding?  My sister's friend, Belinda, did it all by herself.  From the church to the reception, her bridal gown, the flowers, the cake and the food; she was the one who made all the arrangements and the designs.  I heard she even went to a lot of restaurants for the food tasting.  With the help of some of her closest cousins and friends, they did all wedding decorations.  The bride and the groom didn't have a big budget for their wedding but Belinda made her wedding look so beautiful.   It was a simple but elegant wedding.  We all thought they spent a lot of money on this wedding because it was a grand celebration; we were all surprised when we learned that she had a limited budget for the wedding.

Weekend At A Jasper National Park Lodge

My friend just sent me pictures of her family's weekend in the Canadian Rockies. From the looks in their faces, it must have been one fantastic vacation. It was their third trip to the park. This time around, they stayed at a jasper national park lodge. They usually bring tents when going nature tripping. She has great photos of so many picturesque landscapes. Pictures of the wildlife is equally astounding.

They had a local guide who saw to it that they get to see everything. She and her family really loves the place. She would love to make it their home if only they could. I hope I can bring my family there next spring. I'd love to share my friend's experience.

Having Fun with Machine Embroidery Designs

Although I miss stitching and embroidery so much I can still have all the designs I like with my new discovery, machine embroidery designs.  If you are a frequent visitor of this blog, you probably know that I do cross stitch, needlepoint and hardanger embroideries, but I have stopped doing projects ever since I started wearing reading glasses.  I miss those times and I miss joining the contests.  I didn't always win but it was fun and I have met a lot of stitchers from all over the country; we've shared tips and even patterns.

One project takes months to finish especially if you are working on a large project.  I remember my winning piece took almost a year to get done.  It was a rice harvesting scene taken from the painting of Jose Blanco.  I used more than 50 colors for that project alone.  It was a real challenge because I also had to watch out for the back; it had to be as clean as possible.  Knots and crisscross stitches are a no-no!  The stitches were checked before you could qualify and it was only after checking that you can frame the project.  It was difficult but I had fun and the 1st prize medal I got from it made me forget about all the sleepless hours.

I miss those times and I wish I could go back to stitching (sighs).  Anyway, the website I found sells digistitches.  These are machine embroidery designs that you can make into different projects; bags, dresses; shirts; table runners, place mats; etc.  I might not have personally embroidered them but I get to sew them into different things.  And it's more fun now that we have twins; doing their shirts and dresses are keeping me busy.  If you love embroideries and you like sewing dresses or things for your home, why don't you check out the website?

Decorating with Lights

When we decorate a home, lighting are usually the last items that we install or change in a room.  But a friend who happens to be an interior decorator told me that it should be the first because it is from the lighting that you can add style, increase the function, and drama to a room.  It makes sense because once all your furniture are placed in the room, the look of your room will always be the same unless you rearrange them to create a different look.  However, if proper lighting is installed; the mood in the room can easily change depending on the color and brightness of your lights. Each mood can create a different look.

Dim lights suggest quieter nights while bright lights create a cheerful mood.  It would be a great idea to choose a mixture of lighting when decorating a room; don't just stick with chandeliers or lamps.  You can place semi flush ceiling lights, pin lights, undercabinet lights, and pendant light fixtures in one room to create different options.  Just make sure that you don't overdo it or your home might look like a store.  You can ask an expert to help you out or you can look for home decorating ideas online to help you decorate your room.

Beauty Secret (4) - Problem Hair Loss

Zinc can help prevent hair loss by building hair protein.  Top sources of zinc are meat and seafood so make sure you add them to your diet.

Sport Marketing

Sport marketing is a billion dollar industry.  Do you ever wonder why large companies such as Coca-Cola, Orange, and Marlboro continue to fund teams or buy sponsorship slots in international sports events?  Well, that's because sports have a large viewership.  Millions of people around the world watch sports especially large events such as the Olympics, Winter Olympics, Golf tours, Tennis tournaments, and the F1.  When people see their favorite teams or favorite athlete endorse a product, they tend to follow.  You pay the athletes to wear your brand and they give you so much more in return; that's sport marketing.

Lucky Scope Mount

Before our friend Tye left for Greece last month to compete in a shooting competition, his wife gave him a new scope and scope mount.  It was supposed to be for his birthday but she decided to give them early for the competition.  Tye went home with two medals and he says it's all because of his wife's gifts.  They were his lucky charms!  It was his first time to win internationally and he says he had so much fun.  He didn't feel much pressure even if he competed with top caliber shooters like JJ Racasas.  All the competitors were friendly  and it seemed like they were playing instead of competing against each other.  It's not often that you get to play in competitions where the players are very friendly and accommodating.
