Top Movie Posters of All Time

In the earlier days, when the electronic media was not as commonplace as it is now, movie distributors relied on heavily on movie posters to publicize movies. Movie posters were considered to be very important as they had to garner the interest of the audience and draw them into the theaters. As a result, making posters for movies was taken quite seriously. Many posters have, in fact, attained cult status due to their design and a number of other factors.

A few of the famous movie posters which have attained cult status and can be seen in any poster collector’s collection include posters of American Beauty, Pulp fiction, Schindler’s list, Jaws, Shawshank Redemption, 2001: a Space Odyssey, Star wars etc.

The poster of American Beauty, even though very simple, along with its tagline “Look Closer” conveys the idea across effectively as the stomach shown in the poster is Kevin Spacey’s. Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is another classic poster. The addition of the 10cent stamp is considered to be a classic touch. The poster for Jaws is one of the most popular and easily recognizable posters of all time. The poster for The Shawshank Redemption has one of the most iconic images on it along with a good tagline that makes it compulsory in any movie poster collection. The poster for 2001: a Space Odyssey features the head of a fetus. It has a very deep significance, as the movie is not about a trip made by a few men, but by humankind itself.

This list is incomplete and many more posters can be included in this list of top movie posters of all time.
