Cooking with Filippo Berio #OLIVEyouFB

Since I've been diagnosed with a gallstone (July 2015), I have not been eating pork and beef. I only cook with omega3 rich oils like extra virgin olive oil. (And when we're talking about EVOO, Filippo Berio is one of my favorite brands.) I also encourage my family to avoid fatty and oily food.

I was recently sent a bottle of Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil courtesy of Influenster. Salt and Pepper Pork is one of our favorite dishes, but since we're eating more fish, I've thought of making it using Tilapia instead of pork ribs. Well, it turned out really good and my family loved it.

Salt and Pepper Tilapia

  • 1 to 2 Tilapia, cleaned
  • 2 tablespoons chicken powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Five Spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons scallions or spring onions, cut into 1 inch strips
  • Olive Oil for frying

  1. Mix together first five ingredients.
  2. Dry rub pork slices with the mixture and let sit 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. Leave some of the mixture for the onions.
  4. Fry the fishes until golden brown, set aside.
  5. Using the same pan, saute diced onions until soft. Add scallions or spring onions and saute for a few seconds more.
  6. Add remaining dry rub to pan, stir.
  7. Lastly, add the fried fishes and mix well.
  8. Transfer to a serving platter.
  9. Enjoy!

I hope you will try it because it's really good. If you're not used to cooking a whole fish, you can try the Tilapia fillet or any other fish fillet you prefer. If you've tried it, let me know what you think of the dish through your comments.

Review: Honeywell® Console Humidifier

I was very excited when I found out I am one of the lucky bloggers who will be sent a Honeywell® Console Humidifier VoxBox. It arrived on my doorstep a week later. Watch the unboxing below.

First off, the Honeywell® Console Humidifier looks very elegant. I love the black color and it will easily match the theme of any room. It was very easy to set up. You only need to fill the machine with water, turn it on and that's it. True to its claim, the Honeywell® Console Humidifier has a runtime of 24 hours. It has two water tanks that add up to 3 gallons. You only need to refill the tanks once and it will be good for 24 hours. One feature that I love is it automatically shuts itself off when it runs out of water. You don't have to worry about the machine burning up.

Although a little bulky in size, I like that it is lightweight. I can easily carry it around. Filling it with water is easy as well. You can either take out the tanks, bring it to the sink and refill or just take a pail and pour the water in the tanks.

We have been using the Honeywell® Console Humidifier for more than a week now and there have not been a lot of sneezing lately. We have a whole slew of allergy sufferers at home and sneezing is a common scene every morning. I also noticed that there is not as much static in the air. The only flaw is that it's a bit louder than the one we are currently using, but that isn't really a problem.

Overall, the Honeywell® Console Humidifier is a great product. I love it and it works for my family. If you are looking for a nice humidifier to keep the in your home clean and avoid allergies, I highly recommend this.

You can purchase the Honeywell® Console Humidifier through Amazon and Walmart.

Simple Ways to Save Money

Saving money should be practiced early in life. It's something that helps prepare our kids for their future. That's probably why my parents also started teaching me how to save money even when I was just in grade school. I remember them asking me to save at least 10 bucks from my daily allowance and what do you know, soon after I had enough to buy myself my own toys. That feeling made motivated me to save more and as I grew up I used the same mindset to help me save for the things that I want. As a kid, I felt empowered knowing that I didn't have to ask my parents for money all the time. I mean, doesn't it "up" your pride a bit?

Anyway, as I grew older, of course the place where I put my savings also change. From a cute piggy bank to a wallet I leave at home... to a savings account in a bank I trust, like Capital One. It has to be a bank that gives you the most options for your savings account. Since you pretty much want to see that savings grow and not just sit inside a safe until it's needed. What I like about Capital One though, isn't just the way they handle my money, but also the fact that they make an effort for their customers to learn how to save or handle their money through financial literacy programs. This is something that would help a lot in terms of making sure you know what you're doing with the money you work hard for.

Disclosure: I was compensated to share some tips on how to save money.

Product Review: Anti Aging Moisturizer by Peels and Petals

Good skin care means washing your face with a gentle facial cleanser, cleaning it with a mild toner, then finishing up with a moisturizer. Yup, that's basically what you need to fight the signs of aging and maintain a youthful look. Forget the expensive anti aging creams; a good moisturizer can do the trick. Today's review is about the Anti Aging Moisturizer by Peels and Petals.

About the Product

• Boosts your skin's natural ability to retain moisture, reducing fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sun damage to restore your skin's youthful glow.

My Thoughts

The anti aging cream has a mild scent. It has a nice, creamy consistency, but it is not sticky. It is easy to apply and the skin absorbs it quickly. I like that the cream does not leave a shiny look. I have oily skin and an added shine is definitely not needed.

A little goes a long way for this one, so you can be sure that your bottle will last a long time. I love how it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. I used it at night and woke up with a plump skin. It's only been a week and I guess, it's too early to say if it works to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. What I did notice is my pores have slightly reduced.

Overall, I love what this moisturizer does to my skin. It's a very gentle product and it doesn't feel heavy on the face. For those who use makeup, this works. If you are looking for an anti aging product to keep your skin well hydrated, this is a good product to try.

Where to buy?

You can purchase the Anti Aging Moisturizer by Peels and Petals through Amazon.

Product Review: Argan Oil by Jaowying Beauty

I first discovered Argan Oil last year, when I was invited by one company to review their product. I was amazed at how it deeply moisturized and hydrated my skin and hair and since then, I've been using the oil. Today's review is another Argan Oil, this time, it's from Jaowying Beauty.

About the Product
*USDA certified organic argan oil (100% pure) body, hair and face treatment; Imported from morocco; Bottled in the U.S.A *Jaowying Beauty argan oil is produced using the highest standards in the industry; Cold pressed; Unrefined; All natural; Unscented *FAST ABSORBING & LONG LASTING: Absorbs instantly without leaving an oily film on your face or hair. Leaves your Face, Skin & Hair feeling smooth & silky *GET RADIANT GLOWING COMPLEXION & HAIR: This Argan Oil is Perfect for All Skin Conditions; Especially Dry Skin, Split Ends, Frizzy Hair and More. Your skin and hair will be instantly nourished and revitalized! *MULTIPURPOSE: Use with Damaged or Brittle HAIR. Use on SKIN to enrich and keep healthy skin tones. Use on FACE for moisturizing and hydration. Use on NAILS to strengthen and restore color and health.

My Thoughts

The Argan oil from Jaowying Beauty has no scent. For me, this is a plus because it won't mix with scent of my shampoo. I have thick and wavy hair and right after showering, while my skin and hair are still damp, I apply Argan Oil. It helps my skin as well as my hair feel soft and silky smooth. I love how this oil tames my frizzy hair without making it look greasy.

I also noticed that my nails are stronger now. I don't grow my nails because they chip easily, but after using Argan Oil, they look healthier and they don't chip off anymore.

Overall, I love this oil. If you are looking for a product to keep your hair and skin moisturized and make your nails stronger. This is a good product to try. It's gentle on the skin because it's 100 percent Argan Oil and it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.

Where to buy?

You can purchase the Argan Oil by Jaowying Beauty through Amazon.

Product Review: 100% USDA Organic Ultra Hydrating Face Moisturizer

Proper skin care means washing your face with a mild facial cleanser, cleaning it up with a good toner and applying moisturizer to keep it hydrated. I used to skip the last because I always find moisturizers oily and sticky. But when I got fortyish, I didn't have much choice. If I want to delay the signs of aging, I just have to use a moisturizer. Today's discussion is about the Organic & Vegan Ultra Hydrating Facial Moisturizer by Nouveau/Organica.

Product Description

- No Animal Ingredients : Our vegan moisturizer is always 100% vegan. Never tested on animals.
- Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Dairy-Free: This all-natural face moisturizer is also gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free, perfect for those with allergies and sensitivities.
- Packed with Vitamins and Nutrients : Only pure, raw, food grade, unrefined and unprocessed vegan plant-based ingredients.
-Texture: This dry skin moisturizer is a special balm-like consistency that turns into a luxurious serum when applied. Great 2-in-1 moisturizer and serum product.
- Heal Skin Problems: Helps soothe a range of concerns, including eczema, acne, rough texture. Noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic, won't clog pores.
- Multi-Uses: Our organic facial moisturizer can also be used as an eczema treatment, face mask, on dry cuticles, cracked heels, the uses are endless.
- Directions: Rub a pea-sized amount between palms, then gently massage into the skin (more as needed).

*Take care when opening container as product may have softened or liquified in hot climates. Using product in this state does not hinder its hydrating properties. To re-solidify, simply place in refrigerator for 24-72 hrs.

My Thoughts

When my sample arrived, the moisturizer has melted because of the heat. I placed it inside the fridge as instructed, and true enough, it has solidified within 24 hours. It has a fruity and somewhat floral scent that I like. It is pleasant and not overpowering.

The moisturizer made my dry skin "luminous" and well hydrated. Its hydrating power lasted the whole day and I just love how it made my skin feel soft and smooth.

Overall, this is a great product. If you are looking for a moisturizer to keep your skin plump and hydrated, this is a good product to try. I would recommend though that you use it in the evening as it tends to make your skin look shiny.

Where to buy?

You can purchase the Organic Ultra Hydrating Face Moisturizer through Amazon.

Review: Adeline Antioxidant Serum

Ever since I discovered about Vitamin C serums, I've been using it to brighten my dark spots and minimize pores. Today's review is about the Antioxidant Serum with Vitamin C by Adeline. I am not new to this brand as well. I have tried their moisturizer and eye serum and I love how they keep my skin hydrated.

Product Description

Fragrance, Cruelty and Paraben Free - When you apply our facial serum your skin will not be bothered by any un-necessary fragrances or other harsh chemicals. We only use natural ingredients and everyone tells us they like the smell, if they can smell anything at all.

My Thoughts

I love how this serum is bottled. It looks expensive, albeit the price is very competitive compared to other serums out there. Just like any other serums, it is clear. It has a nice consistency and it's not runny. It comes with a pump instead of glass droppers. I like it that way because you avoid spills. One pump is enough to cover your face.

The serum has no scent and it is not sticky. It is easy to work on the skin and is absorbed quickly. My skin felt instantly soft and smooth. I've been using it for two weeks and I like that my skin is plump. My sun spots have brightened a bit and the fine lines under my eyes are less visible. I will use the serum until I consume the whole bottle and I'm sure it will continue to work miracles on my skin.

Overall, I love the serum. It is gentle on the skin and I love the results I am getting. If you are looking for a product to battle the signs of aging, this serum is worth giving a try.

Where to buy?

You can purchase the Antioxidant Serum by Adeline through Amazon. It is fairly priced at $18.95.

Saving Money Tips for Back to School Clothes

While some kids are just starting their school vacation, it's the time of the year again for some parents to prepare for the opening of classes next month. You've already included notebooks, paper, pencils, ball pens, crayons and rulers in your list.

Oh, I hear you, buying school supplies seem like a never ending process, I always feel this way whenever school opening comes near. And this is especially true when you have three or more kids. But school supply shopping doesn't end there and if you think school materials cost a fortune, think again because back to school clothes definitely cost even more.

To help you save money when buying back to school clothes, here are some tips.

Go through your kids' clothes and make an inventory. Purge the clothes that are too small for them and the ones that they wear anymore because of wear and tear. For the remaining clothes, decide which ones you would like to keep and which ones you should pass on to the next child. This will give you an idea of what your kids have and what you should buy.

It will also help to upgrade your kids' clothes. Last year's clothes may be a little outdated, but adding iron on stickers, ribbons and other accessories can transform them into hip and cool fashion statements. Pants that still fit them, but are too short can be cut and transformed into shorts or Capri pants. You may also add beads or rhinestones for a cool, new look.

After sorting out your kids' clothes, check your budget. Check how much money are you willing to spend for their back to school clothes. Set aside a budget not just for clothes, but for shoes and accessories as well. Once you have determined how much money you will spend, make sure you stick to your budget. Check out Zalora, an online shop that offers a wide range of clothing for children. You can check out their collection here. I like that their clothes are fashionable and very affordable.
