Zespri is Kiwi

The kiwifruit is an edible berry. It originated in China but was commercially developed in New Zealand and Australia. It was originally known as the Chinese Gooseberry, the fruit was renamed in the mid 20th century for marketing reasons, first melonette and later on to kiwifruit. The latter was chosen for the indegenous New Zealand bird, kiwi, which is one of the country's national symbol. A few years ago, they changed the name of the fruit again to Zespri to differentiate them from the other kiwis in the world.
