Junk Sleep

Have you been having "junk sleep" lately? You know, sleep that lacks quality the body needs to recharge. It's the reason why you have low energy, mood swings and brain fog. Even sleeping for eight hours every night does not mean you're getting high-quality sleep.

I've read that one surprising cause of junk sleep is wearing form-fitting sleep wears. Studies have shown that women who slept in snug pajamas and tight-fitting undergarments experienced a 50 percent plunge in levels of melatonin. The tight garments block the escape of body heat and suppresses melatonin production and can lead to deficits in restorative slow-wave phases of sleep. To sidestep this, wear comfortable loose-fitting pajamas.

That is very interesting. I've never heard of "junk sleep." Thank goodness I sleep in loose fitting sweat pants and sweatshirt. Great tips. Thank you for sharing.

First I ever heard of this. Very interesting.

Never heard of it either. I haven't slept a good eight hours since February of '93 and don't expect to get one until 2021 when the daughter is old enough to move out of the house.

I had not heard of this...but it makes sense! I know if I'm too warm at night (be it from PJ's, or too many blankets, or too many pets on the bed, or too warm of a room, or a loudly snoring hubby *evil grin!*) I definitely would get what would be 'junk' sleep...in that I don't have a really good night's rest and feel foggy/tired/dragging the next day. I have to have a cool room (as in temperature, though a 'cool' room wouldn't hurt! *grin!*) Thanks for the info!

I have a better idea. Sleep naked! That's what I do. (Wait I have insomnia) maybe being nude is a bit too much eh?

Hey Liza,

Thank God, I don't have junk sleep! I can't even work in tight clothing, let alone sleep in it LOL *nodding*!

Anyway, darling...the right key to sleep properly is to exercise the body and meditate like hell!

I hope you had an excellent weekend and festivities :D! Mine was fun!!

I wish you a Merry end of 2008!! :D

Cheers

haha Now at least I can justifiy hating wearing ummm undergarments of any kind to bed! Feels to tight. So at night I prefer a t-shirt or loose fitting pj's and that is it.

I rarely sleep 8 hours, but I do feel like I am getting quality sleep time. I guess it's due to my loose fitting sweats!

That's so interesting! I didn't know that. I hate to wear tight clothes while sleeping, and obviously that's a good thing.

I just though junk sleep was associated with a toddler needing help peeing at 2 in the morning and the cat jumping on your head at 4. I wear earplug now and it helps immensely with my sleep quality but the other random wake ups are miserable. Thanks for stopping by my site. Happy New Year!
