Mosquito Bites

When mosquitoes make a snack of your legs, the inflammation that results can cause bumps to get scaly or leave discolored pimple-like scars long after the itching stops.  You can prevent it by applying oil of lemon eucalyptus on your skin.  It's proven to be as effective as chemical-based anti-mosquito lotions.

If you do get bitten, don't scratch it.  Rub a dry bar of soap on the area then dab 1% hydrocortisone cream on the bump to ease the itch.  Or rub the bite with the inside of a banana peel.  It's polysaccharide sink into skin cells and soothe the inflammation.

I never heard of these remedies. I will file them away and hope to remember the bar of soap or banana peel when needed. That picture makes me want to swat it! LOL

It's lovely to have remedies for these very nasty insect bites - but did you know that they have found out that mosquitoes apparently don't bite people who eat Marmite regularly.

Another fact that has come to light this year regarding the slightly smaller Scottish Midge is that they tend to bite very tall people much much more than ordinary or smaller sized people. Not sure if mosquitoes also follow this trend. Perhaps someone else might know.

Interestingly some people like me do not react to these bites. My oldest daughter gets red, itchy bumps though.
