Our skin produces less oil as we age. Add to that the exposure to winter air and the result is dry and cracked skin. Here's a remedy I found to help you heal faster. First apply a daily lotion that contains urea, a humectant that locks in moisture and has antibacterial properties to ward off infection without stinging. Then a couple of times a week, combine 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil. Slather the mixture on your hands, slip on cotton gloves and leave on overnight. The yogurt's lactic acid will stimulate new cell growth as you sleep; the castor oil's ricinoleic acid will ease pain and the antioxidants in vitamin E will repair skin.
