The key to strong, healthy and smooth nail is the B-complex vitamin known as biotin.  This vitamin helps stimulate the production of keratin, the protein that makes up the nail plate.  As we age, a biotin shortfall occurs because more of this vitamin is rerouted to support vital organs like the heart, resulting to ridges on your nails.  Experts suggest supplementing with 2.5 mg. biotin daily.  Ask your doc if she can recommend a good biotin supplement.
