Recharge Your Energy

We often hear the words "I am tired" and that's because the average woman spends 70 hours per week on work and housework. Little did we know that there are other ways to increase energy that work much faster and longer than the kick a cup of coffee gives us. Whenever you need a pick me up, here are some of them...

Try to take a time-out from high tech. Gadgets like cellphones, computers and PDAs raise fatigue for those who use them 5 days a week. According to experts, the noises these gadgets make are often distracting and increase cortisol, a stress hormone that overstimulates the nervous system. This leaves you feeling tires and draggy. Take 2 twenty minute breaks from these gadgets daily, it can cut stress hormone production by up to 50%.

Think positive and look on the bright side. Trade your "I wish I weren't" thoughts with "I am so thankful I am...." Negative thinking triggers the release of enerygy-draining stress hormones. Changing a negative to more upbeat ones can rev up energy in just 2 minutes.

Floral scents boost the brain's production of beta waves by 25% in just one minute so stop and smell the flowers when you feel drained. According to studies, the effects can last as long as 30 minutes.

Looks like I need to find the power button to my computer. I spend a lot of time on it. I pretty much avoid all the other gadgets unless necessary.

My mom told me once that a handful of almonds and a glass of grape juice is a great natural energy boost. You get the long-term energy from the almonds and the quick burst from the juice.

This is great advice! I love the idea of stopping to smell the flowers. Perhaps I should burn a flower scented candle while I work.
