Global Handwashing Day
October 15, 2008 is Global Handwashing Day so I've decided to repost an article about washing your hands twice. The vision of Global Handwashing Day is a local and global culture of handwashing with soap. We wash our hands with soap and water but did you know that very few wash their hands with soap at the critical occassions?
As mommies, we always remind our kids to wash their hands properly. Some new studies reveal that the best way to outsmart germs is to wash hands TWICE. A single washing removes less than 30% of bacteria. A second round of scrubbing and sudsing slashes bacteria levels by 92%. So moms..... let's teach our kids to wash their hands twice to shield them from illnesses caused by germs.

There has been a lot of interesting facts come out about hand washing lately. Apparently many of the viruses that are caught in hospitals are less likely to be passed on by washing the hands in simple soap and water than using some of the more modern anti-bacterial scrubs, washes, gels, etc.
I was reminded by a vet that water is cleansed with chlorine which I suppose helps somewhat.
Please remember however that everyone needs to wipe their door handles, keyboards and light switches - at least once each week - and especially during the winter months when colds and flu are often passed on by touching these things. My mother used to say ... oh those dreadful runny noses they run everywhere!
