OATMEAL...for skin asthma

My 11-year old son, Joey, has skin asthma. It occurred when he was 3, when he started having rashes-like spots in his arms, neck, and at the back of his knees. I then bought him to his pediatrician where I was told that he indeed, has skin asthma. We were then referred to a dermatologist where he was given medication. It took a while though, before the rashes disappeared, the medicated cream given to him was very mild because of his tender age. He was also given oral medicine to ease away the itchiness so he can sleep soundly at night.

I was then told by his dermatologist not to give him food he is allergic to like peanuts, soya products and eggs. Joey must apply a lubricating lotion every time he bathes to keep his skin moistened. He uses an imported lotion from the US for seriously sensitive skin, which is also available here but quite expensive, that's why I'm ever thankful to my brother, sister and other relatives in the US for the endless supply of the lotion.

The rashes occurred from time to time since then. I prayed hard that he would outgrow it by age 8, but LO! it became worse. Last year, it occurred again, severe and the spots were bigger. They started from his butt all the way down to the back of his thighs. We consulted another dermatologist, and his allergies were treated with occlusion (a process where the skin is wrapped with saran wrap after applying the cream). Joey was also given oral medicine for the allergy and again for itchiness. Funny, because I almost fainted when I bought the medicines, they were very expensive.

The treatment lasted for three weeks, just the same, he still has to continue applying lotion after bathing, this time, she recommended using oatmeal lotion and oatmeal soap. I hadn't realize the Benefit of Oats until she explained to me that oats keep the skin from drying. Ever since then, he only used this two products. And based from what we see, the oatmeal soap and lotion did wonders to his skin. I'm sure the asthma is still there, but there's no sign of it since. Now my husband also uses the soap because he has dry skin, too.

However, there are only a few stores selling these products, so whenever I find them, I buy a lot to make sure that they'll never run-out. Try it, it really works.

Here's another way to treat skin with oatmeal. Click here for the Oatmeal bath.

I am a Filipino who just moved to California. Since I was in grade school I have had Skin Asthma. I used to buy my medicine in SkinCareRx in Shopsville Greenhills. Before I left the Philippines, I bought a couple months worth of "Skin Repair Cream" and another medicated cream. (Consult a doctor before trying) It works really well for me. In two-three days my skin is clear. The problem is,I am not in Greenhills anymore. What again was the lotion that you said you bought here in the states.

Thank you very much and happy new year!!!

Hi Joseph! I was trying to reply to you by email, unfortunately, you did not leave your address. Lotion I buy from the derma has no brand but it was made in Australia and has a label "oatmeal anti-colloidal lotion". Since you are in the US, look for Aveeno products, I recently bought a lotion for Joey, their soaps and lotions are oatmeal anti-colloidal too.

Glad to be of help to you. ;)

Hi, my son has skin asthma too. We tried Aveeno too but it did not work for him, and he itched with oatmeal soap. I have written about his skincare regimen in my blog, http://www.myfabuniverse.com. It might be useful for moms like us bound by the common problem of skin asthma.

Thank you po.

I used the Aveeno but I used hydrocortison 0.05% for a day to get the swelling down then used the Aveeno to maintain the moisture.

But I do not recomend hydrocortison for long periods of time. I check on the net and long term use is really bad but it works like magic!!!

Thanks again.

Your welcome Joseph. Kakatuwa naman kase Joseph din ang real name ni Joey. He was given hyrdo cortizone too and you're right you have to apply it moderately and hindi pwedeng matagal.

Anyway, I forgot to tell you that he was also advised not to eat too much wheat products, citrus fruits and stay away from soda. hindi naman totally bawal but kailangan in moderation, mas malakas daw kasi yon magtrigger ng asthma nya at his age.

Another thing that I have noticed...make sure the soap from his clothes are washed off well and tell him not to wear Wool Pea-Coats,no matter how nice they look. The wool will irritate the skin really bad!

Thanks Joseph. Will keep that in mind. ;)

Hello po! I'm a 34-year old mom of 2 girls who have atopic dermatitis/skin asthma, and we reside in Davao City :-) My hubby and I are both asthmatics and we also have allregic rhinitis and SKIN ASTHMA as well! :-) It was interesting for me to come across your blog... my 9-year-old has also undergone the same things as your son had... Primarily, the MDs couldn't diagnose what was wrong with her skin. TWO YEARS later, I came across a friend who now specializes in Asthma-Allergology-Immunology and SHE was the one to identify the papule-like marks on her skin -which started in her wrists and had now spread all over her body. My daughter was prescribed oral and topical medications (including hydrocortisones), as well nasal inhalers and ventolin for asthma control, even if she was not a chronic asthma patient. Her case was treated for management and prophylaxis. The usual oatmeal soap (Aveeno) and Elovera (a cream from Australia, if I'm not mistaken) and then Skin Sense (ph balanced moisturizer with colloidal oat meal & urea). They did wonders! But of course, it took a year of treatment, but thankfully, it has greatly improved her skin condition! Milky na ulit complexion nya, except for a couple of small spots on her right rib area, the size of a 5-peso coin :-) we're still working on it!

Speaking of citrus fruits, although I haven't really had it confirmed yet through skin tests, this MD said that it is possible that I am also allergic to the enzymes of citrus fruits, as whenever I take them (oranges, poncans, pomelos!) I immediately notice that my throat starts feeling dry and that there seems to be a concentration of phlegm in my throat no matter how much water I drink after eating--- these might trigger the asthma triad (skin asthma-bronchial asthma-allergic rhinitis). It has been this way since I was a child... ang dami pa naman prutas dito, & very affordable pa! Huhuhu :-( sayang, di ko tuloy ma-enjoy ng lubusan...

Lastly, please allow me to thank you for sharing your experience wiht us. This skin condition called skin asthma becomes less intimidating when shared amongst moms, not just the info from our MDs :-)

God bless you!

hi charisse! thank you so much for your comment and for sharing with me your experience. it's so nice to hear from other moms and joseph too on this matter at least we get to compare notes ;)

you're from davao pala, oo nga ang daming pomelos dyan, ang sasarap pa ;)

thanks again and have a nice day.

I finally found something that works for me!!!hahaha

Its really cheap pa...its called Vitamin A&D Ointment.

Its actually for diaper rash. I have been using this right after I take my showers. As in I lather it all over my neck and face like there is no tomorrow!hahaa

It made my skin so smooth and soft especially my ears.

I think this was also done to super model Alek Wek by her mom. I read somewhere that she had dry skin as a child so her mom put ointment on her whole body every night.

I hope my son wont have skin problems like mine. My wife and I are expecting him mid-May!!!=) Vincent Anthony!!! I cant wait!=)

Liz said...

wow joseph! that's really good news, i mean vincent anthony ;) congratulations! i pray too that he won't have skin ashtma. i have 2 kids and only one have asthma, he got it from my husband.

the ointment is great news too, hahanap ako dito nyan. so far, the oatmeal soap and lotion is working well with my son.

thank you so much for sharing this, it's nice that you come back here from time to time to update because other people are searching this article from google and your tips are really helpful. i think i should write an updated post ;)

take care and regards to your wife.

It has been a couple weeks na and my skin is still pretty decent due to the Vitamin A&D Ointment.

I just would like to add that before this, I tried petroleum jelly but only works for a half a day and the itch will not go away and may even get worse.

Ma'am Liza, if you are still into cross-stitch, buy from Mr.Lex Reyes in Glorieta Makati. I think his store is named Dreams. I am not sure but I think his sister owns the shop in Robinson Galleria Ortigas. But shempre if you are in Manila=)

Liz said...

hi joseph! glad to hear that the ointment is working well with you, and again, thanks for sharing ;)

naiilang ako, hahaha, don't call me ma'am just call me ate ;)

i used to buy my materials at dreams galleria, i live near that area kase, my sil knows the owner, si ate lily. but since i started blogging nakapending ang mga projects ko hehe.

hope to see you again here joseph. regards to your family.

Hi There!

You don't need to import from the states or buy from exclusive stores yung sinasabi nyong colloidal oatmeal lotion. I am currently using a similar lotion made here in the philippines. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist... raw materials are imported and dito na ginagawa sa isang GMP-certified plant. Dermablend Colloidal Oatmeal Lotion ang panagaln nya at mura sya.

Liz said...

thank you so much for sharing this, i will have to look for that, ang mahal kaya ng aveeno ;) yun din recommend ng derma ng son ko mahal din, from australia naman.

salamat uli!

Talaga po!!! Small world!!!...small Philippines!!!hahaha

I used to live in GH East across the street from Santuario de San Jose, and my brothers and I went to LSGH. So we used to live near each other!hahaha

But we moved to a place near celebrity sports 2 years ago...

I cant wait to go back home, manganganak na wife ko this May so I am going home soon.

I know this is off-topic but would you or anyone else know if AVENT really makes good baby bottles or are they all the same? My wifes boss gave 3 bottles during the babyshower, and now my wife wants all the bottles Avent...but parang mahal...is it just a marketing thing?(Its half the price here sa California compared to Rustan's)

I have a story pa pala...

This happened 1st year highschool in O.B.Montessori. Well, to cut down on expenses, the owner has the students wash the dishes. Anyway, it was my assigned day and I was washing the dishes...

It may be the soap, or food, or something, I started to itch all over. I went to the restroom to see what it was. I had rashes all over my body, it looked like I have the map of the Philippines in pinkish red on my body...in "3D"!

So, my parents picked me up from school and brought me to the ER of Cardinal Santos. The doctor looked at my skin and gave me a shot of BENADRYL.

Just my luck, I was allergic to BENADRYL!!!hahaha

I passed out, but it was a good thing my dad caught me. My lips turned blue and I became white as a ghost.

When I wakeup, I was lying in a bed with oxygen and my feet elevated.

Thats about it!!!hahah Gusto ko lang ikuwento!=)

Liz said...

hi joseph! oo naman avent is good kaya nga mahal eh hehe.

take care.

I am back in the Philippines!!! But the bad part is that the A&D Ointment which I used while I was in the States does not work here. I guess the humidity does not allow my skin to absorb the ointment. So I had to go back to the old Derma stuff in greenhills V-Mall at SkinCareRx.

And Ma'am Liza...Im a dad!!!=)

Hi everyone,

I have a 5 yr old daughter who has skin asthma. It started 3 years ago. Just like all of you, I've tried so many products, but nothing seems to be working. I tried oilatum, sebamed, and several other products from australia, the US, and even france. Now, my daughter's using aveeno products. It was easy for me to buy imported stuff before because I used to be a flight attendant, but, now that I've resigned, it's a different story. Aveeno here in the Philippines is so expensive, and buti sana if it works really well for my daughter. I even brought her to a pediatrician who uses natural medicine. We did liver cleansing for 9 weeks, and it worked during those 9 weeks, but when we stopped, the rashes came back again. Now, she has them on the soles of her feet, and she complains of pain when walking. HELP! Joseph, may I please ask what you buy at SkinCareRx? And where can I buy that Dermablend colloidal oatmeal lotion? Please....thank you very much!

Hi, this is Tina Roy. We are desperately looking for the Dermablend oatmeal lotion too. My daughter uses it also for her very dry skin but the supplier of her dermatologist stopped supplying already. We found it also in Mercury Drug Store before but according to Mercury this item has been out of stock for quite some time already. My daughter now is developing white spots on her right leg and is spreading to her upper legs already. We really want the skin on her legs to go back to normal and we know that the dermablend lotion will really make wonders to her skin. Please help us. Thank you.

Liz said...

hi tina,

i also stopped looking for dermablend because it has been some time since i was able to purchase a small tube at shopwise, since then wala na. look for aveeno, they also have lotions and liquid soaps with oatmeal colloidal ingredient.

my 4-month old daughter has skin asthma too. I uses hydrotopic cream when her skin turns very dry and thick. She has maintenance of physiogel skin cleanser for everyday bath and physiogel cream for mild rashes. These products are effective for my baby. She has oral med of anti-allergy also, given once at bedtime.

Hello there! jam here from the eastern side of the metro! it's so nice to come across your blog! i just got home from my dermatologist for consultation early this afternoon because my skin developed rashes and i cannot stand the Ãœber itchyness of these mappy looking "things" on my arms and legs and unfortunately, they are starting to appear on my eyes :( so i felt the need for medical intervention. my dermatologist said i have skin asthma. at the age of 28, i'm such a late bloomer. but he said since i have bronchial asthma i am more prone to have skin asthma - sad to say it has no cure, as he said, but it can be prevented. he said skin asthma can come from a lot of things - weather, genes, physical and emotional stress etc. etc.

He gave me antihistamine tablets - to be taken twice a day, a betamethasone lotion and a cream called clobetasol, both to be applied on the affected areas after moisturizing the body with lotion (after bathing). the effect will show in a matter of three days or so. i just wanted to share with you all some of his tips:
1. ALWAYS MOISTURIZE - especially right after bathing. try to use mild scented or fragrance free lotions like: Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion, or Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion or Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion - whatever fits your budget!
2. Use DOVE Extra Sensitive Bar Soap
3. Use tap water when bathing instead of using very warm water because it triggers the "flaring up" of the rashes
4. Do not over bathe
5. Avoid scratching the affected areas!

Thanks for this site and for all the tips from the other readers of your blog! God Bless You all! :)

Liz said...

hi jam! thank you so much for the input. it's nice that people are sharing their experiences here, at least we can help others.

your tips are useful, i can attest to that because my son has been doing that for years and since then no rashes appeared.

thanks again for sharing. :D

i was searching the net when i came across your blog. actually, i just found out na may skin asthma din ang 1yr.old osn ko.so i brought him to a dermatologist & pinagamit din sya ng oatmeal soap, binigyan din ng oral drops & Triamcinolone Lotion & fluocinolone cream. and it works naman talaga.the doctor even told me na bigyan ng quick bath sa gabi un son ko, you think ok lang ba 'yun? i mentioned it to my parents & nag react agad sila na hindi naman daw porket sinabi ng doctor eh gagawin mo n. so, i just clean my son by lukewarm water. i was jsut wondering, hereditary ba ang skin asthma?

your site is very informative.nice blog! thanks. :)

@Angel

Yes, the derma told me that it is hereditary. My son got it from my husband. Bathing in the evening is alright, lalo dito sa atin super init ang weather.

hi! now i think my skin asthma is worsening. Before kasi pag kamot ko skin ko or try sulatan, the letters talaga as if nakaemboss sa skin ko.
Hirap tiisin wag kamutin. Haizzzz! Buti ito type ako para kahit pano busy kamay.
:)

I know how you feel, I've seen that on my son. Hydrocortisone cream didn't work for him. He was also given anti-itch meds, but try to ask your derma about Lamisil, anti allergy yun, very expensive but effective naman. After he took that, up until now hindi pa bumabalik ang asthma nya. But he still applies lotion and uses oatmeal soap.

Will it go away someday? :( It seems that his medicines are not effective. He used to be talkative but this affects his confidence. He told his mother, " It's ok to have on my body but please nanay not on my face."

I tried Daktakort, but it didn't work. We went to a Chinese herbal shop, and bought peipakoa for my cough..then I asked the vendor if she has an ointment for skin allergies,. She gave me this cream named FLUOCINONIDE something... it really works, and it's very cheap. Not to totally avoid naman kasi they're really hard to avoid but to take them in moderation. Wheat products, citrus fruits, soda and chichirias.

To everyone, oatmeal soap and oatmeal lotion really worked for him. This article I've posted, that's his last skin asthma attack. It's hard to find oatmeal soap in our area so most of the time he uses oatmeal lotion. He uses Aveeno, btw.

2. avoid the allergens ( chicken, wheat, any fruits with lots of seeds, foods w/preservatives )
3. stay away from sun, stay in a cool place
4.use a moisturizer...a mild one ( cetaphil, dermaveen )
no whitening products
5, apply creams (betnovate, clobetasol )
6. avoid stress...haha well i think this is the main culprit...i wish i could really avoid this hehehe

hi! i have skin asthma too and after more than 10yrs na nawala, bumalik na naman. what my derma advised is to use dove soap for extra sensitive skin and moisturize a lot. I just found out about Avon moisture theraphy oatmeal anti-itch lotion. Based on reviews mukhang ok naman sya. So I will try this one. Aside from that un mga rashes is nilalagyan ko na fluoderm para umimpis. My derma says fluocinonide also works too. Hope this helps. :D

hi everyone! im 26 and also got my skin asthma, the first time it occurred was 2005, and it came back just this april of 2010 a week after our summer outing. i ignored it thinking it will heal itself days after. but it got worst. i didnt visit the derma and made self medications, i tried anti-histamines, the uber itch dispperas for a while but when the effect of the meds were gone, it starts itching again. my skin gets really dry and a little scratch it leaves scars forever. i finally went to derma wen i had the budget because i know expensive treatments and medications will be given. i took trizine and dermisolone tablets every night after meals and this oatmeal lotion, my derma said it was from Australia is way too expensive, there was no brand indicated on this 120ml pump bottle but it costs Php675.00, and fluocnolone lotion, this tandem really works for me, applying it after bath, the moisture is real effective for the full 24 hours, and really got my skin back to normal, and more supple. the problem is, i cannot provide anymore for the oatmeal lotion, but i really loved the results on my derma's product. until now i'm searching the internet what the lotion was. i purchased Aveeno Skin Relief Lotion online, tried it last night after bath but it gave me red rashes and itchiness that i didnt expect. now im eyeing on this Nature's Gate Colloidal Oatmeal Mosturizing Lotion, maybe when i have the budget, i'm gonna buy it, and try it, and let you know guys if i finally found the lotion i'm looking for, but i have another one eyeing on, this Dermaveen Lotion, i think it's not that pricey for 1 liter.. =)

I've been burdened with this problem since I was 3 years old, and until now, right this very moment, I could possibly pass as human globe, in vivid detail. It really sucks! I'm now 24yrs old & still, this problem persists. It makes me feel so inferior to my friends who have super kinis skin. Worse still, it always, always leave scars. So dark pa naman.
Anyway, I have this Colloidal Oatmeal Lotion from Dermablend, and it works for me. Not immediately, pero okay na rin. I tried using oatmeal soaps, but not for me. I've been to dermas, ayaw pa rin. Kainis na talaga!

Hello again Ma'am Liza!Ü

I have been skin problem free for a while now and its wonderful. I would like to share a tip that really helped me. After taking a shower I pat myself dryas I can while still in the damp bathroom with the door closed and apply lotion all over before opening the door. If you would notice, when you exit the bathroom and feel a cold breeze or feel cold, that means the water on your skin is evaporating and taking alot of oil along with it. So use lotion before this happens. And when in the car do not direct the cold aircon at your skin.Similar concept. Hope it helps.Ü Good Luck!!!

Hello... I was researching about cure for skin asthma for my niece who is 16 years old now. I came across your site and read through the comments of people with the same concerns. I too am very serious in finding a remedy for my niece's problem because it really affects her a lot and becomes even worse when she has lots of school projects and activities, hence exposed to stress. She has also consulted a dermatologist from St. Luke's and the cost of the medications prescribed was really very expensive. I took note of the Dermablend Colloidal Oatmeal Lotion and hope this will work.
Thank you.

I'm a GP dr here in Manila and only recently did I diagnose my 3 year old's skin asthma which I previously thought as mosquito bites. I apply Mometasone cream or ointment and works like magic as long as it is applied at once before you notice any skin breakout.I just noticed that if I missed it by around 5min(before applying the ointment)it temporarily disappears only to reaapear the next day. Is it quite frustrating. She also has bronchial asthma. I notice that when she doesn't have asthma attacks, her skin eruptions are frequent and I rather prefer that than her having asthma attacks which are difficult to control, we often go the ER since she doesn't respond to treatments at home. She has all kinds of allergy, allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis but I cannot trace her food allergy yet. It is hereditary,my daughter got it from my father(see? it skipped a generation!)I never had a trace of allergy nor does my husband. I haven't tried the Aveeno lotion on her yet since I just came across this blog but I'm presently using it on myself, I'll try that on her based on recommendations from this blog. But bloggers don't despair! I know I am not allowed to give prescription here but let's put it this way I just want to help. We have the same problem. There's Montelukast tablet available for pedia and adult patients to control long term allergy symptoms. I have read the blogs and haven't read anyone prescribed with this. Still seek consult and maybe try to ask your doctor about this.My daughter is on this regimen for a month now her symptoms are lessened but it's still there. If one brand doesn't work, try to shift to another brand(her Pedia Pulmo advises). I hope I somehow enlightened anyone as you have enlightened me.

Hi! I have been researching about cure for skin asthma / eczema. I have a son (1 yr and 10 mos old) who's suffering from skin asthma since September 2010. He had his check up first with a Pediatrician, and prescribed him ointment, soap and antihistamine...walang nangyari. Then pinacheck up namin sa dermatologist at pinalitan ang ointment, soap and antihistamine brand na gamit nya, at bumili pa kami ng imported oatmeal lotion sa dermatologist....wala pa ring nangyari at lalo nagangati si baby noon...Sinubukan namin ng asawa ko na ipacheck up sa Allergologist at almost 5k ang ginastos namin for meds, consultation and blood test. then sabi nya may infection sa blood (di naman sinabi kung ano) at kelangan pa daw ipa skin test si baby at aabot ng 5-6k pesos! Kapos kami sa budget so hindi na kami bumalik sa clinic...We tried several ointments then, mild soaps at lotions, we even changed his milk brand pero bumabalik pa rin after 2-3 days...Then finally may nakapagsabi sa asawa ko na paliliguan ng tubig ng pinakuluang "makabuhay" plant. We did it 2x a day and we applied Dermablend Colloidal lotion as some suggested in this blog. Fortunately, gumagaling na at bumabalik na and glowness ng skin niya ngayon...sana tuloy tuloy na...thanks for the advise, now i'm also using Dermablend Colloidal Lotion for my skin.

HI everyone! my daughter also has skin asthma..it occured when she was just under one year old; and now she just turned 9 and we still continue her battle against skin asthma. we also went to several dermatologist; and the last one recommended her to do alum lumps treatment; after bath we dissolve alum lumps to warm water; and use white cloth and wrap it around her arms & feet for about 20 mins; then apply petroleum jelly in the morning & betnovate lotion @ night before sleep..she also tried UV light treatment..it worked for a while but again..it just goes back during cold months and whenever she eats something that triggers her skin asthma to attack...i want to try oatmeal soap for her to see if it would work for her

hi there folks, same here with me having problem with skin asthma. I used tea tree moisturizer when the itch attack any part of the body and it helps. The itch subsides, that`s why I always carry one. I also use rolled oatmeal soak in water and use the juice as lotion on my skin particularly the dark spots.

I'm so happy to see this blog. I'm 48 yes old & just recently realized that I have skin asthma. Though my siblings have it, I didn't think I'll have it at this age.
I visited a Derma last week & was advised to have a blood test: Allergy Tests (Flouroenzymeimmunoassay P5,025 expensive!) & if I test positive, need to have a patch test. Thank God I tested negative. I was advised to always hydrate, use clear, unscented Glycerine soap & apply this concentrated Australian Colloidal Oatmeal lotion P650 while body still damp after a shower. I will be taking Co-Altria 10mg (Montelukast Na 10 mg, levocetirizine diHCl 5 mg) for 1 month. It has improved from last week though the heat & perspiration makes areas sting, then itchy. Clobetasol cream helps as anti-inflammatory & I would apply Oatmeal lotion on the dry, itchy areas everytime but have to dampen the patches 1st to lock-in moisture.
I will observe if it continues to improve.

Hello. How are you? I hope you are doing great. As we know, Atopic Dermatitis also known as Skin Asthma is a chronic disease. It is caused by genetic background and environmental factors such as stress, microbial agents(bacteria, virus, etc.), climate, irritants and allergens(inhalative, food, contact). And because of this, Galderma came up with a technologically advanced solution to Atopic Dermatitis-the Cetaphil Restoraderm Moisturizer and Body Wash. Both has *Fillagrin breakdown products which are known to be part of skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor that attracts water directly from the environment and retain water. They also have *Humectants that attract water from the dermis and draw into the epidermis. The Moisturizer has *Ceramide Precursors specifically 5 that replenishes Ceramides 1 and 3 which are known to be depleting or decreasing in patients with AD. The Body Wash has *Miracare Technology that provides a blend of mild surfactants that delivers nourishing and moisturizing oils in a rich foam. That is why Cetaphil Restoraderm goes beyond stantard moisturizers and washes. Cetaphil Restoraderm *rapidly reduces signs and symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis. *Improves patients Quality of Life as early as 2 weeks. *And helps prevent flare-ups and prolong remission. For optimal moisturization in AD, Cetaphil Restoraderm Moisturizer and Body Wash. This is the daily regimen for patients with Atopic Dermatitis. Thank you. Have a great day!

Hello po!My name is Judy..Good Day(and Night) po to all! I'd like to thank to all(as in super-thankful!) for giving your time to typed and shared your experiences. I was just really surfing the net now about my skin problem too. And I came across this blog..I really learned a lot!
I don't have anything to share (yet) about what to use. I just want to share about my feelings now, how I felt enlightened. Actually, as I'm reading all the comments one by one, I'm crying.. Touched po ako sa sharings nyo.Mixed-emotions po talaga. Happy(for the knowledge) Sad and so Hurtful yet proud (for those who suffered and conquered) and thankful(for the parents and those who cares for others)..Emotional po ako now Coz just only 2 days ago,(I went to a Dermatologist) nalaman kong skin asthma pala etong nasa balat ko. And I was kindda shocked and devastated. Mangiyak-ngiyak po ako habang kinakausap ako ng doktor...Pano ba naman I'm 37 y.o. na,ngayon lang nangyari sakin ang flare-ups...It was last year December. I had 3 super liit na patches in different places sa arms. I thought it was buni or some sort.Nag self-med ako. So I put cream(Canesten).Nag-clear(for a while lang pala)then in another places naman..For 2 weeks I used that(naubos na kasi)..I changed, and I started to use soap (Dr. Kaufsman's)..Sinasabon ko both arms and let it stayed there for 5 mins before banlaw...YUN NA!Boom! All my entire both front arms naging chicken skin!!(lesson learned mag-pacheck talaga muna.hayzzz)..Kala mo laging nakakita ng multo(goosebumps) ang balat ko. except ganun na lang..tapos it started to get itchy..Di ako bothered pa that time, but yung napapansin kong umiikot na yung bumps sa buong arms ko and also going to my shoulder and super itchy-witchy na, rattled na ako. I went na to a doctor last March 7,2012..
Kaya nalaman kong skin asthma pala, and heridetary! My father has it and until now he suffered too much. Malala po yung kanya.(I thought it was also some sort of fungal infection and I was kinda angry pa nga bakit di nga ginagamot and lumalala pa.I'm seeing his sufferings and feel bad too=(.
I googled informations and saw pictures.Kaya po emotional ako coz I'm so scared matulad sa papa ko..and scared for my big son too!Coz when he was 3 years old he had rashes just after he ate shrimps(sinigang).Rushed him to a Hospital and gave him vaccine. Di na naulit yung rashes.Di na sya kumain ng hipon din. He's 12 now. Baka meron din kaya sya? Pls God,gave it all to me...
I'm suffering from KP(Ketosis Pilaris) also. Lumabas 2 years ago til now.
Anywayz, my Dermatologist gave me this lotion(P350) to be used every two hours(wet the skin first b4 applying), and another lotion(sana) to put on morning and nighttime(di ko muna binili, walang budget P2,100 kasi). But I'm using now Glytone liquid soap( my cousin gave me before for KP too).Pag ubos na Glytone ,I will try Dove white( doctor's prescribed too).....Then last night, I saw a blog from a mom about his son's skin asthma. She said she put Pure Glycerine(clear syrup in a bottle) after taking a bath, while the skin still wet, apply all over his son's face and body. And it works MAGIC!(in capital form pa talaga)Protected na daw anak nya. No more flare-ups na daw..So I bought one right away in Mercury drug @ P89/120ml...It's so cheap and effective daw..I'll give a try for the next 7 days and I'll share my experience again if ok naman...
Thank you Liza for this blog and to all for giving me hope now and making me feel stronger about this...God Bless Us All!!

Hello, my 5 months old daughter also suffered from eczema/ skin asthma...dinalad ko na rin sya sa dermatologist..derma prescribed dermaveen lotion , dermaveen shampoo, triamcinolone lotion and sorbolene wash..it helps to relieve the swelling of my childs skin but still the redness and thickness of the skin remains..my friend told me to use BL cream from chinese drug store..I tried and applied it to my baby..sobrang effective ..2 days and the redness was gone wala na talaga lahat ng pangangapal ng skin na parang kulay gray..try nyo baka effective din sa babay nyo..

Whenever I see a post about skin asthma, I am compelled to comment. It has been a mission of mine to tell the world how my 3 year old daughter recovered from it.

It truly is devastating for parents like us to see our kids itching and crying because of the rashes and woulds. All we could to is to pray.

I thought I tried everything already - steroids, creams, antihistamines. All helped, for a limited time.

However, last year, I found a solution. And I am proud to post my name because I believe this product helped my daughter. See if it will also work for you. Check out www.herbalforkids.com - Mark Cancio

I have a niece na may skin asthma. kawawa kz sobrang itchy daw talaga. gumagastos ang sis ko ng halos 5k weekly bukod pa sa mga mahal n soaps at lotions. Then her derma recommend this unbranded oatmeal soap. In two weeks time nawala ang gaspang ng balat ng pamangkin ko. Dati hoard talaga ang sister ko from the derma ng soap which costs 100 per bar until we discovered a supplier na 25 pesos per bar lang. Try nyo hanapin zenzentrading@gmail.com sa fb.

Hi,

Can you please tell me where you buy those Collodial Oatmeal Lotion? My husband and I don't have skin asthma but we have dry skin case and was prescribed to use oatmeal soap, lotion and bath oil. The products sold by the dermatologist is kind of expensive. My email address is miain.mychal@Gmail.com. It would be a great help!

Thanks in advance!

I would like to share my experience regarding skin asthma. My daughter had them last year after she took swimming lessons.
