The Sneaky Skin Agers

When you think you look older than you should, here are some of the things you should avoid to make your skin look younger and radiant. Well, I'm sure you know that smoking a cigarette and going out without applying SPF can make your skin age fast. However, there are some sneaky skin agers that you may not be aware of like sugar.

If you love sugary treats, you better slow down or you may eventually find that your skin looks older than it should. Sugar breaks down into glucose, which eats away at collagen and elastin, making your skin less supple.

Avoid sitting near windows. Even if you religiously apply sunscreen before going out the door, you can still suffer damaging sun exposure if you sit near a window at the office, or in a car. It will help to have a small bottle of sunscreen in your purse or desk drawer handy so you can reapply every two hours.

Stress plays a major role in making you look older. When you’re stressed, your body pumps up the production of cortisol, a stress hormone that breaks down collagen and elastin.

Lack of sleep. Not getting enough beauty rest can make you look older. This is the time when your body repairs, heals, and regenerates itself, and if you don't give your body enough time to do those, you slow the process, making your skin age faster.

What a Finger Pulse Oximeter Tells You

The small gadget that you see on a patient's finger inside the hospital is called finger pulse oximeter. I've seen this when my father in law underwent a multiple heart bypass surgery. I didn't know what the electronic device was for and it was only recently that I found out. It calculates how much oxygen is carried in a patient's blood. It might just look like a clip but that little thing tells doctors if the blood in the patient's heart and lungs are functioning well to deliver oxygen to different parts of the body.

Cracked lips?

Heal it fast with licorice oil. The oil's phytochemicals will ease inflammation and its saponins will seal in moisture. And here's a bonus: Licorice contains an acid that fights virus that causes cold sore outbreaks.

He Got What He Wished For

Maple neck, a beautifully contoured alder body, three single-coil pickups, a synchronized tremolo and of course, great sound. Anybody who's into music and loves guitars would definitely fall for these Fender guitars. Hubs thought so when he bought one for our son. It was a late Christmas and early graduation gift for him. He'll be graduating from high school in a few weeks and although he didn't particularly ask for anything, we know that he always wanted an electric guitar. I didn't want to give it to him right away because I wanted him to see it on his graduation day, but hubs was too excited; he showed the guitar to our son right away. I wish I have captured the look on his face when he saw it. He was very surprised and so glad that he got his wish.

Soothe Eyes with a Compress

It's not even summer yet but I can already feel the heat. Heat induced ozone surges inflame eye tissues, causing dryness. If you have experienced that like I often do, here's a way to soothe your eyes. Apply cool black or raspberry tea compresses for 10 minutes. Doing so will help soothe eyes and prevent dryness.

And so I thought wrong...

When I first heard the native instrument from my son I said, Oh no! After his fancy for electric guitars, now ancient instruments. All the while I thought these are the instruments that you don't normally see in music stores -- old wooden guitars that are round, old musical instruments, gongs, etc. It was a good thing that I just thought of those things because I would have been the laughing stock of everyone if they knew what was in my mind. It turned out that the best native instruments maschine is this...

It's a machine that creates tight rhythms, harmonies and melodies so your music will have different sounds. I should read up more about these music enhancers so I can relate whenever they talk about these things.

Dental Health No-Nos

Do you bite your nails, clench your jaw or crunch on ice? Stop if you do because you wrecking your teeth without even knowing it. While some of these dental health “don’ts” can do immediate damage to your teeth, the effects of others may add up over time, harming your teeth (and even gums) in the long run. If you love your teeth, nix these dental bad habits.

1) Thumb Sucking - Kids who still suck their thumbs after their permanent teeth start coming in could be causing permanent changes that affect tooth and jaw structure. It can cause a misalignment of the teeth, leading to a number of issues, such as difficulty in chewing food and breathing problems.

2) Don't Suck Lemons - People who do may be putting their dental health in jeopardy. Lemons are packed with lots of acids that may destroy the enamel of the teeth. Repeated exposure to acidic substances can cause tooth enamel to erode, creating a rough texture on the surface of your teeth.

3)  Don't Brush Too Hard

Brushing your teeth regularly is of course a part of good oral hygiene, but if you brush too vigorously, you can cause more harm than good. Vigorous brushing can wear down the enamel of your tooth, irritate your gums, make your teeth sensitive to cold, and even cause cavities. This happened to me and my dentist recommended using soft-bristled toothbrush.

4)  Refrain From Jaw Clenching and Tooth Grinding - There is a severe amount of pressure on your teeth when you do that, causing your teeth to fracture.

5)  Don't crunch on ice - The cold temperature and the hardness of ice cubes can cause serious damage to your teeth.

6)  Your Teeth Are Not a Tool - Never use your teeth to rip open a bag of potato chips, open a bottle of soda, break off a tag on clothing or even unscrew bottle tops. This could pose a threat to dental health and can damage dental work or cause your teeth to crack.

7)  Don't Bite Your Pencil or Pen - If you have a habit of holding objects between your teeth when thinking or concentrating on a task, STOP. You might not realize it but you are actually putting pressure on your teeth when doing so.

8)  Nix Nail Biting - It doesn't only make your hands look awful but it can also damage your teeth.

9)  Avoid Drinking Soda - Carbonated drinks are acidic and can corrode your enamel.

10) Use Toothpicks Carefully - Toothpicks can help keep the areas between your teeth clean if you know how to do it properly. Not doing it right will only hurt gum tissues. Infected or inflamed tissues can cause damage to your teeth.

Organic Skin Care Takes Care of Your Skin

As many people are getting conscious in going green and choosing organic than chemical based products, they also discover that there are more things they can use to enhance green living than just green products for cleaning and choosing organic foods. Going green had opened its doors to a lot of businesses, no wonder many entrepreneurs are joining the band wagon. From clothing to footwear, furniture and even automotive; you can find items that are not just safe to use but are safe for the environment as well.

Did you know that you can also find Organic skin care products? Visit the beauty aisles and you'll see tons of organic make-up, shampoos, lotions and other stuff that are made from natural and organic ingredients. These products may cost a little more than products made from chemicals but people are buying them because they are safe to use.

If you love your skin and healthier options are what you look for, it's important that you choose the products you use well. And by that I mean reading the labels. It may be a tad confusing in the beginning but once you get yourself familiar with all the "bad" ingredients, choosing organic skin care products does not have to be difficult.

Affordable Wedding Dresses from Bridal Shops in Anderson SC

Every girl dreams of a unique and memorable wedding. I had a beautiful and perfect wedding 25 years ago so I looked forward to day my daughter would wear a pristine white gown and walk down the aisle. It didn't happen though because she and her husband decided for a simple civil wedding. But that didn't stop me from browsing online for wedding gowns because she said they are going to have a church wedding too.

If you search online for wedding gowns, you'll be surprised to find stunning gowns that are very affordable. In these hard times, we all should be more practical. If you can have a fabulous wedding gown for less then why not? The bridal shops in Anderson SC offer timeless designs with intricate beading, elegant laces and gorgeous trains to make your wedding such a glamorous event. Or should you decide for a destination wedding, they also offer designs for brides who prefer informal weddings. These wedding dresses are simple and elegant and are made with lightweight materials so they are easier to bring when you travel.

I'm praying that it will not take long for my daughter and her husband to have a church wedding. My husband and I would love to see her in a wedding gown and the girls (they have twins) in cute little gowns with lots of flowers.

Feed Your Skin with Tea Tree Oil

They say tea tree oil is a good antiseptic. You can use it on cuts and abrasions instead of using over the counter antibiotic ointment. The oil has been shown to kill bacteria and fungi. A lot people don't like the pungent smell of pure tea tree oil but I like the refreshing minty smell of this oil. Here are some of its uses.

Tea tree oil is a natural pimple fighter.  It works more effectively than benzoyl peroxide lotion because it dries up pimple faster, with fewer side effects.

Tea tree oil has been shown to kill a type of yeast that's been linked to itchy, flaky scalp. Look for a shampoo that contains 5 percent tea tree oil shampoo for dandruff relief.

For skin infections, tea tree oil works as an antibacterial. A daily bath using 5 percent tea tree oil body wash is highly recommended by doctors to treat infections.

More From Roto-Rooter

My sister was panicking when she called us up the early morning of Monday. She just got home from work and was surprised to find her apartment flooded. Louise is sharing an apartment with a friend and she is occupying the basement. All her furniture were soaked and most of her stuff were floating.

I called up the plumbing company to check on her pipes. The guys act fast because it only took them half an hour and they were already at her door. The pipe under her kitchen sink broke because it was already old and rusty. Thank God that was the first thing hubs checked when we bought an old house. We changed all the pipes and also rewired the whole house before we moved in.

The plumbers her an estimate on how much it would cost her to have the pipe changed and after agreeing, they worked on it right away. She was pleased at how the guys worked fast and efficiently. The clean up even took longer than the work. She's planning to call them again to check her other pipes. I think she wants all her pipes changed because she doesn't want this incident to happen again. Imagine coming home from work tired and sleepy only to be surprised that your house is flooded; that would freak me out, too.

The crew who went to work on her pipe were the same guys who came with the previous call I made when we had our old pipes replaced. I specifically requested for them because they work fast and I knew my sister's problem would be solved quickly.

There's more from Roto-Rooter besides plumbing maintenance. If you have problems with your toilet, you can call your local roto rooter plumbers to work on it. They do toilet repairs, unclog drains and even help you with frozen pipes. Their plumbers are reliable and professional. I like that they are careful when working inside the house because they bring in their equipment with care and they even cover their working boots so they wouldn't leave a scratch on your floor. They also clean up their mess so that's really a big plus for me.

*This is a sponsored post however, all the points and views are my own.

Easy Frizzy Hair Fix

As the days start to get humid, frizz starts to show up as well. It happens when moisture enters the hair cuticle, causing it to swell and kink up. Here's a tip to keep moisture out and protect your locks from frizz.

Use a gentle sulfate-free shampoo when you wash your hair in the morning. Sulfate which creates all the lather can easily dry and strip hair of moisture. Dehydrated strands are at greater risk for frizz. It will also be best to rinse well with cold water after conditioning. Doing so will help seal the cuticle, making it harder for moisture to enter the hair follicle. And lastly, don't forget to treat your still damp hair with leave-on conditioner after towel drying.

Be Properly Represented

Desperate and facing multiple lawsuits.  That's what my parents felt back in the early 90's when our export and import business started to decline. It even came to a point when they were already experiencing a heavy barrage of harassing phone calls and letters; all threatening them to pay up. Friends and some family who used to be close to us started avoiding us as well. We've sold most of our assets but they were not enough to pay all debts and we were on the verge of losing the only property left... our home.

They were starting to feel hopeless and didn't know what to do but luckily, mom found an ad for a phoenix bankruptcy attorney. An appointment was set immediately and after a few days of study, the lawyer accepted my dad's case. It turned out the lawyer was an expert and he was a respected one.  He didn't promise anything but he assured dad that he'd do all he can to help.

True enough, our family passed the dark times through the help of this lawyer. A few years later after that, my parents were able to stand up again. They are in a different line of business, wiser and are doing well.

Bankruptcy is a big problem but never be afraid of it. If you do not know what to do, call for an expert for help. You'll never believe how easier things will be for you if you are properly represented.

Problem Visible Veins

Hormone fluctuations during menopause can cause veins to protrude, leaving the hands looking creepy. Adding more to the problem is the cold weather, which causes hands' muscle fibers to contract and veins to appear more pronounced. To hydrate hands and ward off UV rays that can further thin the skin, apply a hand cream with an SPF of 15 or higher throughout the day. Then each night, use a hand cream with retinol, which triggers collagen production to firm skin and better conceal veins.

My Home Office

Never thought I'd learn about t-slot bolts, studs and other accessories. My husband is doing a table project for my home office. He does it during his spare time so I'm the one who buys the materials. I do the shopping online because it's easier and a lot cheaper. I am excited because hubs said my table will be ready this weekend then he will be working on the shelves next. At last, I'm going to have my own space at home and I can't wait!

Beauty Secret (8) - Look Thin in a Jiffy

Going to a party?  If you need to squeeze into tight clothes or shoes on short notice, the trick is to cut back on salt and starchy foods for at least a day before the big day. Sodium and carbs (like bread, pasta, cereal, and bakery items) hold onto water, making your belly and feet swell. Stick to lean proteins and veggies so your tummy will be flatter and your shoes will pinch less.

Meeting Tile Installation Challenges with Ditra and Kerdi

Schluter Systems began as a tile installation company in 1966. Established by Werner Schluter, a Master Tile Setter, Schluter Systems came into being after its founder developed an ingenious way of protecting the exposed tile edges by installing a metal “L” angle before placing the tiles, thus giving birth to its first product, the Schluter Schiene. This was in 1975 and since then, Schluter Systems has continued to develop a long line of products that addresses the problems that come with installing tiles. In 1990, their name was changed to Schluter Systems.

The Schluter-Ditra line was developed in 1987 to replicate the established sand strata method but uncouples the tile with the substrate. The Ditra line is an uncoupling membrane that replaces the sand strata method but eliminates the stresses in the force-conductive assembly of the sand strata method. It also incorporates into the coupling membrane waterproofing and vapor management capabilities which you cannot find in the sand strata method.

The Schluter-Kerdi line is a bonded waterproofing membrane introduced in the same year. The membrane is attached to the substrate, thus allowing the direct application of the tile using the thin-set method. This eliminates the danger of moisture getting into the mortar setting bed, effectively reducing the risk of leakage and mold growth in wet areas.

South Shore Flooring is a proud dealer of Ditra and Kerdi flooring accessories that helps ensure that your bathrooms and kitchens are waterproof and your tiles are safe from cracking and chipping so that they can last longer and prevent expensive re-tiling costs. Visit their website today and check out their line of Schluter Systems products to address the usual tile installation challenges for your bathroom and kitchen renovations.
