Get Rid Of The Ugly Dots

Blackheads on your nose?  Here's a more natural way to get rid of the ugly dots that works as effectively as pore strips.  To do:  Mix 1 tablespoon each unflavored gelatin and milk and put in microwave for 10 seconds.  Use a makeup brush to apply the mixture to the problem area and let dry for 10 minutes, then peel it off.  The gelatin will cling to and remove the skin's oil and dead cells that leave behind blackheads, without irritating skin.

Bear With Me

My husband hates it when things get stuck. He never fails to lubricate anything that squeaks. He never waits to change the bearing of any machine or even swivel chairs at the first signs of failures. He even looks after our son's skateboards. You would hear him rant whenever his swivel chair squeaks. It really irritates him. There was even a time when he wished that his chair had industrial bearings so that he wouldn't have to oil it often. The only thing that comes out with this is that everything is quiet in the house. That is the case until something breaks down.

Paranoid

We visited a friend who lives in a sprawling estate. He had experienced intrusions in the past. One look at the place and you'd feel like you're in Area 51. The fences were high and bristling with barbed wire. Posted on the fences were dozens of no trespassing signs. Guard dogs patrolled the vast estate and sensors ringed the perimeter. We even suspected that the fences were electrified. The gate was remotely controlled. We found it to be overdone. We all know that we need to secure our homes but not like this.

Add Volume to Flat, Lifeless Hair

Does your thin hair tend to go limp just minutes after styling?  Here's the trick to add volume:  Once a week, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to a quarter-size dollop of shampoo and wash as usual.  The baking soda will absorb the excess oil and product buildup that weigh down hair, leaving your hair light and bouncy.

The Greener Option

Thinking of going green?  One way to help save the environment is to use hand dryers in the bathroom instead of paper towels.  These are usually seen in public toilets but are now also used at home.  Imagine how many trees we can save if all of us would consider using hand dryers.  Yes, these are electrically powered but using them is still the greener option because they don't use so much energy.

Cranky Me

I woke up to the sound of a very loud generator.  Still dizzy with only two hours of shuteye, I tried to go back to sleep.  But the roaring sound from the generator keeps getting in my head.  Irritated, I got up to check where the sound was coming from and found out that something went wrong with my neighbor's electric power so they had to use the generator.  I wonder why they didn't buy a honda generator, it is so quiet no one would ever know you're using a generator.  I know because my father in law made sure his generator won't disturb the neighbors.  The lack of sleep definitely made me cranky and sluggish all day.  :(

The Excitement Continues

As soon as my cousin heard that my daughter is bearing twins, she got so excited.  This is a first in our family and she told me that all our relatives in the States are already shopping for baby gifts.  Lol, they are more excited than me.  We don't know the genders of the twins yet because we are still trying to convince the daddy, he wants it to be a surprise.  Anyway, I'll be announcing the genders as soon as I know them.  :)

BIL's Rest House

My brother-in-law is busy with the finishing touches on his rest house. It's been his long time dream to own a house on the side of a mountain.  Now his dream has become a reality.  With his hard work, he was able to purchase a log cabin big enough to accommodate two families. He is also shopping for log furniture to go with the theme. He says it'll be ready in three weeks and it's right on time for summer.  We all can't wait to see the rest house.

Remove Dark Circles In A Cinch

Did you know that the juice you get from grating a potato can help remove those dark circles under your eyes.  If before we only think of cucumbers when asked on how to remove dark circles under eyes, recent research shows potato juice can also do the trick.  And it works faster than a cucumber!  Thanks to the spud's catecholase, that helps brighten dark spots quickly.  To do:  grate a potato, squeeze to get the juice, dip cotton balls into the juice and apply directly unto the under-eye area. Let it dry and wash off after 30 minutes.

Hi-Tech Stealing

As our technology advances, so do the criminals.  Fraud and hi tech pickpocketing are very rampant in the world wide web.  Oh, they have so many ways to steal from innocent people.  They have a way of hacking people's accounts, and once they have penetrated the account, they get your vital information, use your credit card or even penetrate your bank accounts.  Before you know it, you are charged for something you did not buy.  But there is something you can do to stop them from stealing from you.  There are blocking products available to protect your accounts.  These blocking products will breakblock the personal information being sent by radio waves from your credit cards, passports, and other ID cards.  That way, criminals will never get your vital information and eventually stop hi tech stealing.

A New Gadget

My nephew was so excited to show me his new camera when we visited them last week.  Now on his second year in Digital arts, he has saved enough from his allowance to buy the Caméscopes numériques he so long wanted. A much needed gadget for his course.  With this handy camera, he can easily share images instantly with his professor and classmates. I'm sure his new toy would make learning more fun for him.

It Only Takes Three Seconds

Seriously?  Lose weight without diet and exercise and no side effects?  That would be every dieter's dream.  I recently heard that sensa can help you lose weight without sweating it out.  It's a tasteless powder you sprinkle on food right before eating.  Apparently, the powder makes you feel full quicker so you consume less food.  I've been working out to death to lose weight, still, the weight won't budge.  This sensa powder might be the solution.

Mend Cuts Faster with Honey

Applying honey to cuts can speed healing and prevent scarring.  According to experts, honey is hygroscopic, which means it draws water into itself, so it kills bacteria by dehydrating them.  Next time you get a cut, try applying honey instead of using over the counter meds right away.

Puerto Pollensa Adventure

Today's the last day of school for my son and that means a couple and a half months of summer vacation.  He still can't decide though, what to do with his free days.  He is choosing between taking football and guitar lessons.  I would rather he takes both but he I don't want to pressure him.  I just want him to have fun.  Skateboarding is going to be in full swing, I'm sure.  His dad promised him a new board if he gets good grades this year and now is the time to collect the reward. Going to the beach is definitely included in the plan.  I already heard him making plans with his friends.

Our annual beach adventure of course, will continue this year.  But instead of visiting the nearby beaches, where we already have been several times, hubs and I are thinking of going out of the country.  This summer, it's just the three of us now that my daughter recently got married.  Also, my friend Tonette, who happens to own a travel agency made some attractive offers so I'm thinking, why not treat the family to an out of the country beach adventure?  While the newly weds are having a grand time at one of the villas in Majorca, we will be spending a few days at a puerto pollensa apartment.  We've been around Asia already so it'll be wonderful to visit Europe this time.  And since I have been dreaming of Spain ever since I was young, that will be our first stop.

With Europe in the itinerary, I am so sure this is going to top our most memorable summers.  My son doesn't know about the plan yet and I can't wait to see his face light up once he hears about the European escapade.

New In, Old Out

From time to time, we change some of our furniture.  We would hold a garage sale and sell these along with other items we no longer use. People in our area as well as some people from other places come and browse through. My kids also sell stuff they don't need. The proceeds of the sale goes to their savings. We hold our garage sales usually at the start of every year. Toys are the easiest to sell as children come with their parents. My old sports equipment are also top sellers. Even old clothes are lapped up.  Electronics gets the most attention and these are the most haggled items.

We're very careful with our things and anyone who buys them will sure be happy at how fresh our things are. These sales are also a great way to recycle and put smiles on other people's faces. No use hanging onto stuff other people might find useful.

Sending Love

Are you good at expressing yourself? I am not an expressive person. It takes a while for me to express my inner feelings, more so when it comes to love. There are days when I can't string three words together. If I find myself in a bind like that or when I find that I don't have the courage to say what I want to say out loud, I turn to love quotes. It's easier. Those persons we quote have the right words to express a powerful feeling that love is. They know more or less how to send a message across.

I normally send a message with a love quote to a person who I think needs it. A love quote can send either a positive message or a warning. I knew a person who was in a forbidden love affair. I could not tell the person to step away from the relationship because I knew it would just fall on deaf ears. I used love quotes about forbidden love affairs to tell the person in so many words how wrong it was to love someone who isn’t free to love anymore. The quotes more or less told the person that I didn’t think the affair would do any good to the person but just bring hate and hurt to her. It took her a while and it took me a number of love quotes but it did the trick. The person realized that the affair was inflicting pain on everyone around them both so the affair was cut short.

Love quotes can send a coded and loaded message. You just have to choose the right one for the person you intend to send it to. There are a lot of love quotes to choose from. Choose one and then send it to someone who needs it.

The Oil Giants

When you talk about fuel, only two names come up easily.  British Petroleum and Exxon Mobil.  These two oil companies are the largest in the world.  British Petroleum, popularly known as BP is a European company based in London while Exxon is an American based company.

While the two are the largest suppliers of petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other automotive fuels, BP concentrates more on exploration and production, refining and has also ventured into power generation and trading.  The company is also into the development and production of new energy technologies -- biofuels, hydrogen, solar, and wind power.  You might have already heard of biofuels.  Non-toxic type of fuels made from vegetable oils, waste cooking oils, animal fats or tall oil.

Exxon Mobil on the other hand concentrates more on  fuel and lubricant production.  This is also the company that introduced synthetic motor oils to us.   Millions of users find it beneficial because apparently, the oil helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear.  The oil is engine friendly because unlike any other motor oils, the synthetic oil helps keep your engine clean.  Both companies had suffered from a major setback in the past years because of  boil spills. Although billions of dollars were lost in both oil spills, the two companies have recovered fairly ans are now back on their feet.

These two big oil companies work hard to deliver clean fuel to the public and are working harder to find alternatives to help the environment.  So if you are to ask me what's the difference between bp and exxon, I would say nothing much.  Although some of their products may differ, both are aiming for the same goal, to be of better service to the public and to give us quality and clean fuel.

Chemical and Nuclear Weapons

Are you aware of the difference between chemical and nuclear weapons? I learned that both are classified as weapons of mass destruction. But their difference lies in the way that they destroy when unleashed. A chemical weapon is usually carried in projectiles, rockets or other artillery shells. When released in the air, the poisonous gases contained in those shells will cause harm, incapacity or immediate death to the human beings and animals the gases will come in contact with. It will leave all structures around standing and undamaged. But the humans and animals will eventually cease to exist.

On the other hand, nuclear weapons are actually explosive devices. When unleashed, it will create a destruction so massive that it will wipe out everything, both structures and living things, for miles and miles around. You just know that nothing will survive a nuclear explosion. The places wiped out by the explosion will remain not habitable for years and years to come. No life can be sustained in a place touched by nuclear explosion, even animals.

There lies the difference of nuclear and chemical weapons. Whatever the difference of the weapons is, there is no denying the fact that the main purpose of using either or both weapons is still massive destruction. Harm and death. Both are evil in a way that it takes lives when there is no need to go that far. We hear of countries who keep weapons like this in their arsenal, in places where it can easily be deployed to as far as countries across the globe. The weapons are meant to say in not so many words that the country has something up its sleeves that will mean mass destruction to their enemies if they decide to meddle with their affairs. Mass destruction. The planet doesn't need any of that now and ever.

Are Muslims Sensitive?

The world is a big place where all of us, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, can co-exist in peacefully. There is enough space for everyone and if we are only open to every little thing we see around us, we can co-habit this world without the need for any kind of disturbance. If only we can stop ourselves from sending our bad vibes to someone who is not like us, then there will be no need for wondering why muslims are so sensitive. There is a reason why they are like that. And we non-Muslims are responsible for the way they are.

How come, you might ask? See, since Muslims are different, from the way they dress to the way they pray to their Allah, we sometimes think they are weird. Admit it, at one time you thought this way, too. It's stereotyping. It's misconception. I know it can be that way especially if we hear one of them involved in a global issue. But let's open our minds to the fact that Muslims are passionate people. They can appear to be fanatics to us. Like the way they defend their religious beliefs. They will defend it to death which is something we don't understand because we are of a different faith. Or the way they stay true to their way of like with the way they dress or eat or interact with the opposite sex. We don't understand it but that doesn't mean that we should treat them like pariah. They are also like you and me except that they have a different set of rules in life that they follow to the T.

Yes, Muslims are sensitive but only when they feel they are being ridiculed and insulted for what they are. If they feel that misconceptions rule others. We can all live harmoniously. If only we respect everyone around us, Muslims included.

Feel Great with Lime

Running low on energy?  Add lime to your dish or snack to ward off tiredness.  The fruit is rich in vitamin B6 and potassium.  These nutrients convert stores of carbohydrates into energy and help regulate blood sugar levels for a steady dose of pep.  Here's an idea:  Squeeze lime over fresh mango, add a sprinkle of chili powder and enjoy!

Top Movie Posters of All Time

In the earlier days, when the electronic media was not as commonplace as it is now, movie distributors relied on heavily on movie posters to publicize movies. Movie posters were considered to be very important as they had to garner the interest of the audience and draw them into the theaters. As a result, making posters for movies was taken quite seriously. Many posters have, in fact, attained cult status due to their design and a number of other factors.

A few of the famous movie posters which have attained cult status and can be seen in any poster collector’s collection include posters of American Beauty, Pulp fiction, Schindler’s list, Jaws, Shawshank Redemption, 2001: a Space Odyssey, Star wars etc.

The poster of American Beauty, even though very simple, along with its tagline “Look Closer” conveys the idea across effectively as the stomach shown in the poster is Kevin Spacey’s. Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is another classic poster. The addition of the 10cent stamp is considered to be a classic touch. The poster for Jaws is one of the most popular and easily recognizable posters of all time. The poster for The Shawshank Redemption has one of the most iconic images on it along with a good tagline that makes it compulsory in any movie poster collection. The poster for 2001: a Space Odyssey features the head of a fetus. It has a very deep significance, as the movie is not about a trip made by a few men, but by humankind itself.

This list is incomplete and many more posters can be included in this list of top movie posters of all time.

Clean and Safe Drinking Water

The prices of gasoline has gone up again and everything else are expected to follow suit.  And I am so sure, like me, you are thinking of ways to save money.  I have already done some "cut backs" here and there over the past months --  walking or commuting if we don't have to go too far to save on gas, unplugging all appliances when not in use to save on energy, and dozens of other small things.

This time, I'm thinking about our drinking water.  Back here, it is safer to order gallons of drinking water instead of drinking water from the tap.  It is also wiser than boiling tap water for minutes to make it safe to drink.  Imagine how much gas I would waste if I am to boil gallons and gallons of water everyday.  Buying safe drinking water is way cheaper!  But if I have a water filter pitcher, then I don't have to buy or boil water any more, right?  All I need to do is pass tap water through the filtering water pitcher  and my family will have clean and safe water to drink.

I'm still weighing my options though, I still have to look up how much these water filter pitchers would cost.  I want to know first if I can afford it, any idea guys?

Easily Remove Waterproof Mascara

You know that waterproof mascara leaves your eyes looking gorgeous all day, but it's so hard to remove come clean up time.  Next time, swipe on non-waterproof mascara first, then follow with a coat of a waterproof formula.  With this trick, you don't have to worry about smudges during the day because the hard-to-budge waxes of the waterproof formula act as a sealant.  And your cleansing routine will be a cinch.  That's because the waterproof mascara will be sitting on top of a regular, easy-to-remove product rather than adhering to your actual lashes.  So when you swipe makeup remover over your eyes, it will dissolve the regular mascara, and the waterproof layer on top will slide right off.

The New Faucet

Being the most used faucet in the entire household, my kitchen faucet needs to be replaced again.  A friend recommended Danze faucets. According to her, these faucets are durable and functional.  Taking her word, I went to the website and found one that I really like.

I was afraid that I can't afford it but it turned out I was wrong.  Hopefully, I won't need to change this one for a long, long time.

Learning A New Language

It was good to find a long lost cousin at Facebook.  It's been almost 15 years since I last heard from her.  So long that I wouldn't recognize her two kids if we bump on each other in the streets.  It was a pity that we didn't see each other when they went home last Christmas.  My cousin is married to a Japanese and have been staying in Tokyo for almost three decades now.

She still does translation services.  A former freelancer, she now works in a reputable translation company in Tokyo, translating documents from Japanese to English and vice versa.  I'm glad that she has accomplished a lot through all those years.  She came to Japan with my mom's help.  Learned the language and started working in a printing company, met Hideki and got married.  They have 2 children, Yumi and Jiro.

She earns well with her job.  So well that she's now learning to speak German.  According to her, Übersetzungsbüro is in need of translators.  The pay is higher and the work schedule is not as tight.  Go cuz, your determination and hard work will pay off nicely, that's for sure.
